ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT

OUR LADY OF FATIMA PARISH CATECHETICAL MINISTRY

CATECHETICAL DAY (September 28, 2019)

I. Overview

The month of September is intended to celebrate the National Catechetical Awareness. This year,
we celebrate the National Catechetical Month with a theme, “Catechists: Empowering the Youth
for a Synodal Church.” Emphasizing the role of the Catechists in developing the youth towards a
united church is the mere message of the annual celebration.

Furthermore, in line with the National Catechetical Celebration of the month of

September, the Our Lady of Fatima Parish celebrated the Catechetical Day last September 28,
2019. The Catechetical Ministry of the Our Lady of the Fatima Parish being the frontliner
empowers the young ones through catecheses. The said event took place at the Our Lady of
Fatima Church, attended by 107 persons who are composed of invited kids from public schools,
volunteered facilitators from youth ministries, and the parish volunteer and fulltime catechists.

II. Pre-program preparation

KidCat 2019

The Youth Core Group (YCG) of the Catechetical Ministry

initiated by the head catechist of the Our Lady of Fatima Parish,
Renold de Vera, held a meeting for the preparation of the
Catechetical Day. In the meeting, it is suggested to come up a
creative name for the event which will be easily remembered. Thus, “KidCat” is unanimously
decided to become the official name; “KidCat,” which simply means Kids and Catechesis.

This aims to express the importance of the catechesis among the kids vis-à-vis the
trending problems they face. This seeks the definitive goal of catechesis, which is “to put people
not only in touch, but also in communion and intimacy, with Jesus Christ” (CT #5). Thus,
through catechesis, we let the little children come to the Savior (Mt. 19:14). This is to help the
children to know Him, to feel Him, and ultimately to love Him.
III. Program Proper

a. Assembly, Parade, Eucharistic Celebration

The assembly and registration started around 6:30 am at the Urduja Village Covered Court. The
invited participants who were students from grade 3 to 7 of the Urduja Elementary School and
Caloocan City Business High School gathered in preparation for the parade around the
community of the Urduja Village. The Parade started around 7:30 am where the participants
marched from the covered court passing the few streets of the Urduja Village and ended to the
Our Lady of Fatima Parish where the Mass is celebrated. The Eucharistic Celebration is presided
by Rev. Fr. Amer Zaragosa. In his homily, he stressed the importance of Catechesis among the
children.

b. Welcome Remarks

Right after the Mass, the participants were

welcomed by Renold de Vera, the head
Catechist of the Our Lady of the Fatima
Parish. He explained the theme of the
National Catechetical Month Celebration.
He also formally opened the event, the
“KidCat 2019” by explaining the 3
elements of the program: (1) Eucharistic
Celebration; (2) Entertainment; and (3)
Catechesis.
c. Entertainment: Animations, Games and Play

To further the excitement of the participants after

the welcome remarks, the volunteers from the
Our Lady of Fatima Parish Youth Ministry led
the dance animation, which participated by the
invited kids.

Next to the Dance Animations were the Fun Games.

The participants were divided into 3 big groups and
play the games prepared by the Committee of the
Program.

And they watched the play, “Katekista Ako,”

prepared by the Youth Core Group of the Our
Lady of Fatima Catechetical Ministry. The
play “Katekista Ako” portrayed the life of a
catechist in the midst of the different faces of
the youth.
d. Lunch Time

After the morning session is the

lunch break. The assigned food
committee prepared the meal at
the rooftop of the Our Lady of the
Fatima Parish. The budget for the
meal is provided by the Parish
Pastoral Council.

e. The Concurrent sessions: Faith Reload

The afternoon session started right after the lunch break. At exactly 1:00 pm, the participants are
divided into two big groups. The breakout is according to their age. First group is ages 8 to10
years old; and the other is ages 11 and above. The topic of the concurrent sessions is Four Pillars
of Faith. The Prayer and Commandment is for the first group ages 8 to 10 years old, while The
Sacraments and Creed is for the latter group ages 11 and above. Experienced youth catechists
from the Our Lady of the Fatima Parish facilitated the sessions.
The theme of the concurrent sessions is Faith Reload for it aims to refresh the faith of the
participants which they received through the sacrament of baptism. The topic Four Pillars of
Faith is well-suited in re-cultivating their Catholic faith.

f. The Sharing: Shepherd and the Sheep

There were chosen Parish Youth

Ministry members to be the shepherds
of the flock. Basically, the shepherds
will facilitate the sharing of learnings
and realizations of the sheeps, who
were the participants. There were 8
flocks (groups) with around 12 to 15
sheeps. The activity promotes the value
camaraderie and sense of
accompaniment, reminding that the
Church is always shepherding the
young ones in their journey.

g. Synthesis and closing Remarks

Br. Ian gave the synthesis of the “KidCat 2019”

program. He highlighted the role of the church in
accompanying the youth by explaining the meaning of
this year’s celebration, which is year of the youth. He
emphasized the three words in theme of the said
celebration; beloved, gifted and empowered. He also
gave the closing remarks in which he encouraged the
participants to live what they learn.

h. Closing

animation prepared by the Bugso Band and animators
