Once, a cap seller was passing through a jungle. He was dead tired and needed to rest. Then, he
stopped spread a cloth under a tree. He placed his bag of caps near him and lay down with his cap on
his head.
The cap seller had a sound sleep for one hour. When he got up, the first thing he did was to look
into his bag. He was startled when he found all his caps were not there. He was wondering where they
could have gone. Indeed, he was greatly puzzled.
When he looked up sky, he was very surprised to see monkeys sitting on the branches of a tree,
each wearing a cap on his head. They had evidently done it to imitate him.
He decided to get his caps back by making a humble request to the monkeys. In return, the
monkeys only made faces of him. When he began to make gestures, even when he raised his fist
towards them to threaten them, they also imitated him.
At last he hit upon a clever idea. “Monkeys are a great imitator,” he thought. So he took off his
own cap and threw it down on the ground. As he had expected, all the monkeys took off the caps threw
them down on the ground. Quickly he stood up and collected the caps, put them back into his bag and
went away.

August 17th marks the anniversary of Indonesia’s Declaration of Independence from the
Netherlands in 1945. This important event is celebrated across the country with the raising of the red
and white national flag, the “Sang Saka Merah Putih,” and the singing of the national anthem
“Indonesia Raya.”
The draft was prepared only a few hours earlier, on the night of 16 August, by Sukarno, Hatta,
and Soebardjo, at the house of Rear-Admiral Tadashi Maeda, Miyako-Doori 1, Jakarta (now
the Formulation of Proclamation Text Museum, Jl. Imam Bonjol No. 1, Jakarta). Aside from the three
Indonesian leaders and Admiral Maeda, three Japanese agents were also present at the
drafting: Tomegoro Yoshizumi (of the Navy Communications Office Kaigun Bukanfu), Shigetada
Nishijima, and Miyoshi (of the Imperial Japanese Army). The original Indonesian Declaration of
Independence was typed by Sayuti Melik. Maeda himself was sleeping in his room upstairs. He was
agreeable to the idea of Indonesia's independence, and had lent his house for the drafting of the
declaration.
The Proclamation of Indonesian Independence (Indonesian: Proklamasi Kemerdekaan
Indonesia, or simply Proklamasi) was read at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, 17 August 1945. The declaration
marked the start of the diplomatic and armed resistance of the Indonesian National Revolution, fighting
against the forces of the Netherlands and pro-Dutch civilians, until the latter officially acknowledged
Indonesia's independence in 1949. In 2005, the Netherlands declared that they had decided to accept de
facto 17 August 1945 as Indonesia's independence date. On September 14, 2011 a Dutch court ruled in
the Rawagede massacre case that the Dutch state was responsible because it has the duty to defend its
inhabitants, which also indicated that the area was part of the Dutch East Indies in contradiction of the
Indonesian claim of 17 August 1945 as its date of independence. In a 2013 interview the Indonesian
historian Sukotjo, amongst others, asked the Dutch government to formally acknowledge the date of
independence as 17 August 1945. The United Nations recognizes the date of December 27, 1949.The
document was signed by Sukarno (who signed his name "Soekarno" using the older Dutch
orthography) and Mohammad Hatta, who were appointed president and vice-president respectively the
following day.
The proclamation at 56, Jalan Pegangsaan Timur, Jakarta, was heard throughout the country
because the text was secretly broadcast by Indonesian radio personnel using the transmitters of the
Jakarta Hoso Kyoku radio station. An English translation of the proclamation was broadcast overseas.

Being a teacher is a tough job anywhere, but it seems especially hard in Indonesia. We have
seen quite a few stories about students attacking teachers, as well as teachers abusing students, all of
which seem indicative of a larger culture of disrespect and violence within the country’s schools.
That culture was once again thrust into the spotlight recently when a video of students at a
school in Central Java harassing and bullying their teacher went viral and made national headlines over
the weekend.
Whether or not that is actually the case or simply an attempt by the school’s principal to save
face is hard to say. But Muhaidin did admit that even if what they were doing was just joking around, it
was beyond what was reasonable and said the students would be disciplined in some way and their
parents would be involved.
While stories about Indonesian students disrespecting and even attacking their teachers are
disturbing, on balance we’ve probably seen more stories about teachers forcing awful punishments on
their students such as the elementary school kids who were recently punished for smoking by being
forced to smoke more and the teacher who forced one of her students to lick a disgusting toilet because
they didn’t do their homework. Clearly there is something seriously needs to be done to reform the
culture of discipline at a lot of Indonesian schools.
But, I believe that we have same perception that juvenile delinquency is our problem, starting
from students, teachers, parents, society and also government. Certainly, it could be solved if only
those components give high participation and responsibilities in it. We do hope there won’t be another
victim anymore.

31. What topic is being argumented in the text above?

A. Some problems on Education in Indonesia recently.
B. The juvenille delinquency done by the students to the teachers.
C. Corporal punishments implemented by teachers.
D. Students’ smoking is one of the big problem in education.
E. The educational reformation in Indonesia.

32. How do you analyze the paragraph one and two?

A. Paragraph 1 is different with paragraph 2 in overcoming the case.
B. Paragrah 2 is more detail in explaining the case than paragraph 1.
C. The secondparagraph is the elaboration of the firstone.
D. The paragraph two does not support the first paragraph.
E. They stand alone and incorrelatedto each other.

33. The writer’s argumentation intentionally wants to reiterate….

A. the readers to stop the juvenile delinquency immediately
B. that the case is the parents’ and school responsibilities
C. some arguments that juvenile delinquency is still on control
D. that juvenile delinquency is now a serious problem
E. that students now do the delinquency due to the technology advancement

34. Muhaidin did admit that ... what they were doing was just joking around.

Acid rain is rain that is highly acidic because of sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and other air
pollutants dissolved in it. Normal rain is slightly acidic, with a pH of 6. Acid rain may have a pH value
as low as 2.8. Acid rain can severely damage both plant and animal life. Certain lakes, for example,
have lost all fish and plant life because of acid rain.
Acid rain comes from sulfur in coal and oil. When they burn, they make sulfur dioxide (SO2).
Most sulfur leaves factory chimneys as the gaseous sulfur dioxide (SO2) and most nitrogen are also
emitted as one of the nitrogen oxides (NO or NO2), both of which are gasses. The gasses may be dry
deposited–absorbed directly by the land, by lakes or by the surface vegetation. If they are in the
atmosphere for anytime, the gasses will oxidize (gain an oxygen atom) and go into solution as acids.
Sulphuric acid (H2 SO4) and the nitrogen oxides will become nitric acid (HNO3). The acids usually
dissolve in cloud droplets and may travel great distances before being precipitated as acid rain.
Catalysts such as hydrogen peroxide, ozone, and ammonium help promote the formation of
acids in clouds. More ammonium (NH4) can be formed when some of the acids are partially
neutralized by airborne ammonia (NH3). Acidification increases with the number of active hydrogen
(H+) ions dissolved in acid. Hydrocarbons emitted by, for example, car exhausts will react in sunlight
with nitrogen oxides to produce ozone. Although it is invaluable in the atmosphere, low-level ozone
causes respiratory problems and also hastens the formation of acid rain. When acid rain falls on the
ground it dissolves and liberates heavy metals and aluminum (Al). When it is washed into lakes,
aluminum irritates the outer surfaces of many fish. As acid rain falls or drains into the lake the pH of
the lake falls. Forests suffer the effect of acid rain through damage to leaves, through the loss of vital
nutrients, and through the increased amounts of toxic metals liberated by acid, which damage roots and
soil microorganisms.
38. What is the result of the burning of the coal and oil?
A. Ammonium
B. Nitric acid
C. Sulphuric acid
D. Sulfur dioxide
E. Airborne ammonia
39. The sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides will …. in the air.
