PHOENIX SIMULATION SOFTWARE

DASH 8 TUTORIAL #1 London Ontario – Toronto Pearson

This short tutorial flight from CYXU to CYYZ is an introduction to the PSS Dash 8.

The flight from London Ontario Canada to Toronto Ontario takes about 45 min.

A second more detailed tutorial called PSS Dash 8 MYNNKMCO can be found at the

SETUP

The download includes this flight tutorial, the file PSS Dash 8 CYXUCYYZ.flt and the
file Dash 8 checklist.

move the file PSS Dash 8 CYXUCYYZ.FLT


to the folder
FS2002\flights\myflts\

Using the Dash 8 Load Edit Utility set Weight Units to Imperial, set Passengers to 50
and Payload to 2195, click Files, save, File exit

Using the PanelConfig Utility select "Cold and Dark"

FS2002 SETUP

start FS2002
from the CREATE A FLIGHT screen
click SETTINGS
click GENERAL, click "Show Cockpit Tooltips"

Note!
the PSS -8 has dynamic tooltips, for example the heading can be read by placing the
mouse over the heading knob

click OK
click DISPLAY, select HARDWARE tab
set Hardware Lighting Effects to "8"
click OK
click INTERNATIONAL
set Units of measure to "US System"
click OK
click SELECT A FLIGHT
select the flight "PSS Dash 8 CYXUCYYZ
click FLY NOW

IMPORTANT!
select Modules, FSUIPC, technical tab, check both "extend battery life" and "fix control
acceleration"

check, www.schiratti.com/dowson for updates to FSUIPC


PRESTART

pressing "S" to enter the cockpit and view the -8 2D panel

pressing "S" toggles thru the virtual panel, tower view, spot view, back to main panel

"Shift+2" opens the "Pilot Instruments" panel (undockable)


This can also be done by clicking inside the glass of the ADI or HSI, closing the panel
again by clicking the same area when expanded

"Shift+3" opens the "Engine Instruments" panel (undockable)


This can also be done by clicking inside the glass of the center engine dials closing the
panel again by clicking the same area when expanded

"Shift+4" opens the "Center Pedestal" panel (undockable)


This can also be done by clicking the top edge of the pedestal, visible at the bottom
right of the main panel closing the panel again by clicking the same area when
expanded

"Shift+5" opens the "Warning and Caution Lights" panel (undockable)


This can also be done by RIGHT clicking inside on the Warning/Caution annunciators
closing the panel again by Right Clicking the same area when expanded

"Shift+6" opens the "FMS" panel (undockable)


This can also be done by clicking the top edge of the FMS, visible at the bottom right
of the main panel closing the panel again by clicking the screen area when expanded

pressing "5" on the keypad opens the overhead panel, press/hold "5" then "ctrl" locks
the overhead panel, pressing "5" releases the overhead panel, not undockable.

This can also be done by clicking the top edge of the compass, visible at the top of
the main panel windscreen surround closing the panel again by clicking the lowest
part of the overhead area when expanded.

In the Virtual cockpit you will notice the text displayed on the Pilots Yoke.. This is text
directly taken from the file dash8-300_notes.txt and can be edited to show whatever
information you like. By default it shows the following information saved from the
Loadedit Utility (supplied)

Max Takeoff Weight (MTOW) = lbs


Zero Fuel Weight (ZFW) = lbs
Max Fuel Load = lbs
If you edit this file you must keep all text to a MAXIMUM of 31 characters wide
For it to remain readable in the VC

LET US CONTINUE WITH THE FLIGHT

● open the OVERHEAD panel by pressing either “5” on the keypad or shift+5
(shift+5 allows for the undocking of the overhead for multi-monitor users)

● BATTERY MASTER / MAIN / AUX ON

● APU START
press APU PWR, press START
wait for GEN WRN (yellow)
press GEN WRN
press BLAIR (bleed air)

● RECIRC / FC FAN ON

● A/COL light RED

● exit the Overhead panel

● set ALT SET to 11000’

● set NAV RADIO 1 primary to 115.00, stby to 112.15


you can use the TUNE pg on the FMS to tune radios

● set NAV RADIO 2 primary to 112.15

● remote HEADING selector will be set to 147 runway heading for runway 15
the heading can be read at the lower left corner of the EHSI

● remote COURSE selector will be set to 61 to define the airway V98


the course can be read at the upper left corner of the EHSI

● set altimeter to 29.92

● open PEDESTAL panel

● set Transponder code to 3571


right click, right of knob till "35", left click, right of knob till "71"
you can also use the TUNE page of the FMS
● exit PEDESTAL panel

● open FMS panel

● after initialization, press ACCEPT

● press FUEL, press LSK2L for PAX, enter 50, press ENTER

● enter 2195 for CARGO, press ENTER

● enter 15 for ALTERNATE and HOLD, 0 for EXTRA

● press FPL

● enter CYXU, press ENTER, press ACCEPT

● enter YXU, press ENTER, press ACCEPT

● press LIST, press LSK2R for AIRways


you will see from YXU

● press NEXT to scroll to pg 4/4, enter 4, press ENTER


you will see FRM YXU via V98, TO

● enter 7 for ROKTO, press ENTER

● you will be returned to FPL 2/2, press PREV for 1/2, the FPL should be

CYXU,,YXU,,HALBY,,TETOS,,YWT,,ROKTO,,

● at FPL pg 2/2, press the LSK after ROKTO

● enter PENGO, press ENTER, press ACCEPT

● enter VERKO, press ENTER, press ACCEPT

● enter VIXAN, press ENTER, press ACCEPT

● enter EBDAL, press ENTER, press ACCEPT

● enter CYYZ, press ENTER, press ACCEPT

● press FPL and confirm

● press MENU, press STORE FPL, enter CYXUCYYZ, press ENTER


this stores the route in FS2002\PSS\routes

With CONDITION LEVERS at MIN (best to have top of levers at MIN line),
increase THRUST using F3 or flight controls till aircraft starts moving then
press F1 for IDLE, adjust THRUST between DISC and FLT IDLE as required
to maintain taxi speed.

Runway 15 is straight ahead, then left to the end of the runway.

Hold short of runway 15

● set PARKING BRAKE

● at “POSITIVE CLIMB” set “GEAR UP”

● at 400’ AGL the FP shall call for “FLAPS UP"

● at 1000' AGL, press AP, ALT SEL and HDG on the Guidance Controller Panel

● POWER LEVERS to 80% torque

● CONDITION LEVERS to 1050 rpm

● press AUX on the Guidance Controller panel

● press NAV
the aircraft will turn to intercept the V98 airway from YXU to ROKTO

● set ENGINE ECU to MCL (CLimb)

● at PENGO, set ALT SET to 4000', press ALT SET, set VS to -1500

● set NAV 2 to 112.15 for YYZ VOR

● set DH to 200

● passing VIXAN, set ALT SET TO 2500', press ALT SEL, VS to -1500

● at 2500', set HDG to 276

● on HDG 276, press APP

● adjust POWER LEVERS to 40-44% torque, maintain 150KIAS

● when GS tracks down, set FLAPS to 15

● set GEAR down

● adjust POWER LEVERS to maintain 120KIAS

● at 500' RA set CONDITION LEVERS to MAX, BLEED AIR to OFF

LANDING
