INTRODUCTION

I.1 ABOUT INTERNSHIP TRAINING:-

Internship training is an exercise for the students who are undergoing M.B.A
program. The objective of the study is to make the student familiar to the current
industrial scenario. It provides the student with the first hand idea on the general working
of the organization. The students get an environment where they can actualize the
knowledge he has acquired in his curriculum. The exercise is an opportunity for the
student to understand the organizational structure, the major departments, flow of
information and various other functions in an organization.

Some of the things that can be learned from this training are

• To acquire the knowledge about the organization setup of NATURAL


COTTON SPINNING MILL PVT LTD.

• To know about the functional as well as managerial aspects of the company.

• To know about the production function of the company.

• To have practical knowledge of process involved in company

• To know welfare measures provided to workers in company.

• To know the marketing concept involved to market the product of the


company.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY:-

 To analyse the effectiveness of Malabar Spinning & Weaving Mills and give there
commendation to improve existing sales and production.
 To analyse the consumer behaviours and to study the parameters influencing the
purchase decision.

INDUSTRY PROFILE

The country’s cotton production has been steadily on the rise with better farm

practices. The average yield has increased to 500 kg per hectare. From a level of

importers of cotton, India has become an exporter of cotton earning a name in the

international market. Presently India is second largest cotton producer in the world next

to US and about to overtake the US as the number ONE in the next couple of years. It is

the result of various factors. Primarily because of rising cultivations of but cotton and

reduce the farmers input costs, while the yield as well as quality are substantially much

larger compared to traditional varieties. In view of this development, the cotton

cultivation acreage has been steadily going up in India. The farmers have become more

knowledgeable to follow scientific methods to cultivate high yielding long staple cotton

varieties. Besides individual mills are also simultaneously taking steps to improve the

cotton production along with Technology Mission on cotton (TCM), the cotton

development research .The resultant factor is quality and quantity of raw material supply

has substantially improved in the country. Due to globalization of our economy, the

conscious of quality inputs and pricing have become competitive to the international

standards and prices. Supply of quality raw material availability sources of raw material

from major cotton exporting states and countries. Every organization is a deliberate and

planned endeavour of people whose common goal can be achieved through attainment of

targets and goal by individual members in it. In brief, good business is generally the

result of good organization which can emerge only if it consists of good people who work

together as a team. The textile industry occupies a unique place in our country. One of the

earliest to come into existence in India, it accounts for 14 per cent of the total industrial

production, contributes to nearly 30 percent of the total exports and is the second largest

employment generator after agriculture. The Indian textile industry is one of the largest in

the world with a massive raw material. Cotton is one of the principle crops of India and is

the major raw material for domestic textile industry.

The Indian cotton industry provides facility to millions of farmers as also the

workers involved right from processing to trading of cotton Indian cotton industry has an

overwhelming presence in the economic life if the country. Apart from providing one of

the basis necessity of life the cotton industry also plays a pivotal role through its

contribution to industrial output, employment generation and the export earnings of the

country. India is the only country which grows all four species of cultivated cotton. India

produces large varieties of cotton. India cotton is produced in country in three zones viz.

North zone comprising the states of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. Central zone

comprising the states of Maharashtra, Madya Pradesh and Gujarat. zone Southern zone

comprising the states of Andra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

India is one of the largest textile producing country in the world. The share of the

industry in the export basket of India is around 20%. However textile industry is vast

developing sector and when the competitions are exorbitant especially in its design and

quality we have to adopt modern technology management machine so as to compete with

other countries in the international market

 Natural Cotton Spinning Pvt Ltd based out of Tirunelveli on Southern India is

engaged in the manufacturer of premium quality compact cotton yarn for hosiery

and wearing.

 Natural Cotton Spinners Private Ltd is Incorporated in 2005.

 It is Classified as Non-Government Company and is registered at registrar of

Companies, Coimbatore.

 It is involved in Spinning, Weaving and finishing of textiles.

 Directors of Natural Cotton Spinners Pvt ltd are Ganapathy Rathinasabapathy

Goonder, Ramaswamy gounder Palaniswamy, Rathnasabapathy Revathy and

Indumathy

 Their business is Supplying Yarn to the Market

 For the functioning of entire process our their infrastructure is segregated into

various sections like research and development, production, ware housing and

quality control

 The nature of business is based on producing different variety of Yarn from

cotton.

 The finished product is then exported to their headquarters in Coimbatore, 50% of

yarn is used as raw material for weaving of textiles and 50 % is send to market f

1. MAN POWER PLANNIG:

Right person in a Right place is the key factor of succeeding the HRP in Textile
Industry or ‘Human power’ may be taught of as “the total knowledge, skills, creative
activities, talents and aptitudes of an organizations work force as well as the values,
attitudes and benefits of an individual involved. It is the sum total of inherent abilities,
acquired knowledge and skills represented by the talents and aptitudes of the employed
persons”

The major activities of HRP has the five areas like,

• Demand forecasting,
• Supply Forecasting,
• Determining Human Resource Requirements,
• Action planning,
• Monitoring and control.

Is important but the most important is ‘M’ for men or human resources. It is in
fact an important economic resource covering all human resources organized or
unorganized, employed or capable of employment working at all levels supervisors,
executives in production section, packing section, finishing section and technical
employees, machine operators, Helpers are involved in the Industry.

Shift Time:

• Morning Shift 7.00 am to 3.00 pm

• Evening Shift. 3.00 pm to 11.00pm

• Night Shift. 11.00pm to 7.00am

Man Power:

• Total number of workers in morning shift are 110.

• 70 Company workers and 60 contract labourers .

• 70 to 80 staff members are employed as per the requirement.

Break time

• 5 to 10 minutes Tea Break

• Lunch break is for 30 minutes

2. RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION

Recruitment is the process of searching the candidates for employment


and stimulating them to apply for jobs in the organisation. Whereas Selection
involves the series of steps by which the candidates are screened for choosing the
most suitable persons for vacant posts.

 Recruitment process includes analyzing the requirements of a job.


 It also includes attracting employees to that job screening and selecting applicants,
hiring and integrating the new employee to the organisation
 Recruitment is the process of filling the vacancies.
 It is the first steps in selection process In Cotton Mill

 Direct recruitment method is used frequently for recruitment
 The firm places job advertisement in newspapers, Tv and Media
 The company also have internal recruitment for filling the post by efficient and
skilled workers from the rank , promotion and Corporation have preferred local
candidates who belongs to surroundings.
 There will be notice displayed on the notice board of the company and outside of
the company and like that workers will be recruited.

Methods of Selection:

 The method for selecting employees include preliminary screening , phone


interviews, face to face meetings and HR functions to determine whether a
candidate is indeed suitable for the job.

 The basic requirement for a worker is 8th or 10th pass .

 And other office Staff will be selected according to the Government Norms.

 Staff members are recruited by the General manager

 The General Manager will conduct the interview, they will be selected based on
their qualifications and skills

 while selection they will try to avoid very sick and aged persons.

3. TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT:

 There will be regular training & development programmes for all levels of

employees. i.e. Senior Management to lowest level.

 Training programme is conducted for freshers.

 Training period will be 2 or 3 weeks by their supervisors and trainers.

 It is also given for existing employees to make them more efficient.

 Workers will receive salary even in a training period.

 Training Analysis (sometimes called Training Needs Analysis (TNA)) is the

formal process of identifying the training gap and its related training need

Designing Training Program:

 There will be both on the job & off the job training.

 Off the job training is imparted based on the need and category of staff.

 Generally training is given to a group and there will be external or internal trainers

called upon for giving training for the employees

On the job training:

a) Job instruction training (JIT)


 The JIT method is a four step instructional process involving

1. Preparation

2. Presentation

3. performance try out

4. follows up.

 It is used primarily to teach workers how-to do their current jobs.

 The trainee receives an overview of the job, its purpose and its desired

outcomes with a clear focus on the relevance of training.

 The trainer demonstrates the job in order to give the employee model to

copy.

 The employee is permitted to copy the trainer’s way.

 Finally the employee does the job independently without supervision.

b) Coaching
 Coaching is a kind of daily training and feedback given to employees and
immediate supervisors;
 It involves a continuous process of learning by doing. It may be defined as an
informal, planned training and development activity provided by supervisors
and trainers

Off the job methods:

a) Role playing
 In role playing method involves human interaction, that is realistic
behaviour in imaginary situations. This is mostly used for
developing inter personal interactions and relations.

b) Lecture method
 It is a traditional and direct method of instruction. The instructor
organizes the material and gives it to a group of trainees in the form of a
Talk.
 To be effective the lecturer must motivate and create interest among the
trainees

4. MOTIVATION METHOD
Motivation is the act of stimulating someone or oneself to get a desired course of
action or to push the right button to get desired reaction

 Motivation plays an important role for growth and learn.


 The company can achieve this by putting the workers in a Team
 There are motivation classes and all conducted by various persons and
attendance award is given to all employees who are present in the mill for
a certain number of days
 Motivation is the psychological phenomenon which means needs and
wants of the individuals have to be tackled by framing an incentive plan
 Motivation results in reduction in résistance to change

TECHNIQUES OF MOTIVATION

a. Financial incentives:
 First techniques of motivation is financial incentives as money is
indicator of success.
 Therefore it fulfils psychological salary and status need as people satisfy
their needs by money.
 Wages, salary and incentives motivates employees to perform better.
b. Setting weekly goals
 Set up smaller weekly goals along the way to keep people in it.
 The employees should be motivated to work towards their goal through
rewards and recognition.

c. Rewards and Recognition
 The best way to motivate employees is giving recognition and reward for
their Performance
 The management should appreciate the workers for the work done by
them.
 This will encourage them to work hard which is help to achieve the goal
of the company

d. Let them lead


 Motivating employees is not just about giving them vacation time, its
about showing them they make a difference and are valued.
 The employees have freedom to share their ideas and suggestion in the
meeting.
 This will also motivate them to work hard for the organisation
 If they are known that they are valued they will do their best for the
betterment of the organisation

e. Communicate better.

 The importance of employee communication is often overlooked.


 The management should communicate with them frequently and actually
speak with them face to face
 The workers and staff need to know they are valued
 And communicating in person with them is the best way to show your
appreciation for their hard work

5. LABOUR WELFARE FACILITY

Labour welfare implies providing better work conditions. According to

labour investigation committee “Anything done for the intellectual, physical,

moral and economic betterment of the workers, by the employers, by the

government or by other agencies over and above what is laid down by law or

what is normally expected on the part of contractual benefits for which

worker may have bargained”

Factories Act, 1948 contains the following Provisions for Labour welfare
 First aid appliances
 Canteens
 Hostels
 Toilets
 Facilities for storing and drying clothing
 Facilities for sitting
 Shelters, Recreation room

1) FIRST AID
 The first aid boxes of cupboard shall be distinctively marked with a red
cross on white background.
 First aid boxes shall contain sterilized dressing, sterilized burn dressings,
one bottle of mercurochrome solution in water, and one bottle of adhesive
plaster, sterilized eye pads, tablets of aspirin or any other analgesic.
 Polythene wash bottle containing potassium permanganate crystals. These
first aid facilities are provided in all departments.

2) CANTEEN
 The company has a canteen which is one of the most efficient parts of the
company.
 The canteen is working in all the shifts. The facilities are available to all the
employees. Each employee is given token daily during lunch time
 . The management charges only a nominal amount the amount is deducted
from the salary of the employees.

3) HOSTEL

 The company provides the facility for workers to stay within the campus
of the company by having a hostel with it.
 With this facility, workers gain the place for shelter with free of cost. as per
management side, they can acquire labour at exact time for working.

4) TOILETS

 The toilets are built separately for Male and female workers with good water
facility.
 For workers it is built separately in two areas for the convenience of the
worker.

5) FACILITIES FOR STORING AND DRYING CLOTHS

 In every factory provision for suitable place should exist for keeping
clothing not worn during working hours and for the drying of wet clothing
 These facilities helps the workers to store their things.

6) FACILITIES FOR SITTING

 In every factory suitable arrangements for sitting shall be provided and


maintained for all workers who are obliged to work in a standing position
 So that the workers may take advantage of any opportunity for rest which
may occur in the course of work
 Workers may not be able to stand and work for a long time, they need to sit.
 This will increase their energy to work and they will not be tired.

7) SHELTERS, RECREATION ROOMS

 In a factory more than 150 workers are employed for there shall be a
provision for shelters, rest room and a suitable lunch room where workers
can eat meals brought by them or provided by the company.
 No worker shall eat any food in the work area
 Such rooms should be ventilated lighted and shall be cool and clean
condition

6). SAFETY AND SECURITY

 Human resources professionals plays an important role in ensuring employees


health and safety, as they know the work place, the employees and their job
demands.
 Ensure that employees fulfil their health and safety responsibilities as outlined
in the organisational policies and programs
 Checking workplace safety throughout the day is an easy way to keep
working environment safe.

 The supervisor should care about the employees and their wellbeing
 Being safety oriented can help improve your employees morale and
productivity.

To safeguard the workers from the dust company is providing safety

measures;

 Eye and Face Protection – Spectacles, Masks


 Head Protection - caps
 Foot and leg protection - Safety shoes
 Ear Protection – Disposable or non-disposable earplugs
 Arm and Hand Protection – rubber gloves, sleeves etc.
 Keep work areas and emergency exits clear
 Industrial uniform

7. LEAVE MANAGEMENT

 Whereby employees are expected to give proper notice when applying for
vacation time
 Of course, exceptions will occur and management should be flexible according to
the employee’s situation.
 Setting a notice period such as a week in advance, helps management to
coordinate resources better
 National and festival holidays are given.
 Employees are encouraged to work hard through many incentives.
 Reward will be given for workers with full attendance.

8.PERFORMANCE APPRISAL

 The performance appraisal system in the company is that when a person joins the
company at first he will be a trainee and after completion of training period then
he will be a permanent employee.
 So for the trainee, they will be earning a low wage and when he becomes
permanent the wage also increases.
 By each year the salary or the wage also increases according to the number of
years he worked in the firm and his Performance
 The employee’s performance in his work must be evaluated and he will be
rewarded.
 This is done after a particular period of time of his work
 This will encourage him to work better. At the same time they will be focus on
their work.

9. HR POLICIES & FRAME WORK

 General Manager, HR and his team in consultation with Management develops


HR policies.
 The human resource department in an organization is a link between job seekers
or employees and the management.
 The role of a human resource (HR) department varies from interviewing potential
candidates, to providing the best possible atmosphere for task efficiency at a
minimal cost to the company.
 The HR policies in organizations relate to corporate nationality, fair employment,
family oriented personnel, health care, and place of work or domestic violence
policies.

 HR policies differ from organization to organization. Effective HR policies and
practices not only draw boundaries for employees but also recognize and address
their needs.
 Fair employment policies normally cover sexual harassment, equal employment,
compensation, and career planning.
 Family oriented personnel policies lessen stress and permit workers to do their
best.
 These include policies for flexible job schedules and dependent care benefits.
There is a tendency amongst employees to test limits and act creatively in work
place situations, so business houses also need a strategy for developing,
communicating and implementing HR policies that reflect their standards of
acceptable behaviour.

PRODUCTION PROCESS:

 The raw cottons will be coming in bail forms weighing from 160 Kgs.
 The raw cotton will be coming from Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh etc.
 The raw cotton will be carried out carefully out to the go downs and from their
each bail will be taken for cotton mixing and for the production of yarn

MIXING AND BLOW ROOM

 Bales are different variety of cotton are opened and layer of cotton from bale each
are fed alternatively with a view to obtain uniform blend.
 For getting different counts as yarn, cotton of different variety and soft waste are
mixed in a predetermined proportion. The cotton for each mixing is fed into the
plant in the blow room where external impurities are removed.

 The compressed cotton opened into small tufts and a lightly compressed
continuous sheet known as LAPS are rolled upon cylindrical rod.
 The waste obtained in the process are droppings, quality fly and lap bits.
 In the case of chute feed blow room the cotton converted into sliver bye-passing

CARDING

 In this department, the cotton is completely opened into individual filters.


 It is the process of mixing variety of cotton and separate into a rope like structure
form.

 It helps to remove the waste particles from the cotton.


 The waste in the process is sliver waste cylinder fly, flat strips, roller strips and
sweepings.

DRAWING

 Breaker drawing is also called Drafting.
 It is the process of making loose assemblage of fibres from carding can, by
passing it through a series of rollers, thus straightening the individual fibres and
making them more parallel.
 Drawing reduces a soft mass of fibre to a firm uniform strand of usable size.
 Drawing is stretching process applied to fibres in the plastic state increasing
orientation and reducing size

SIMPLEX

 In this process, the thickness of drawing sliver is reduced and sliver is give twist
and wound on the bobbing.
 The production depends upon the spindle speed and twist per inch, number of
spindles etc.
 the waste collected in the process is roving ends and sweepings.

SPINNING

 The final yarn is spun on ring frame by drafting and twisting the rove from simplex.
 The draft end twists vary depending upon the count, quality of yarn required.

 The yarn is collected by winding on cops.

AUTO CONER

 The yarn from ring frame is wound in cones suitable for market.
 In this process faults like thin and thick places are removed by passing through
slit cleaner.
 The auto corner has facility of electronically cleaning the yarn and splicing
instead of knotting in the conventional cone winder.
 Saleable hard waste is obtained in this process.

WINDING

 Two yarn threads are wound parallel on a cheese on double winder.


 The yarn received from double winding is twisted on ring doubling machine and
wound on cops.
 This yarn is taken to cone winding department for winding on cones for market.
 The yarn is packed in the poly woven bags for the market.
 The cotton yarn cones will be loaded to very carefully without getting wet and all
 One bag’s weight will be 60.Kgs.
 One bag will be having 32 cones

Marketing is the heart of the industry. It plays an important role in establishing
relationships between customers and the organizations offering to the market. The
marketing function is also tasked with branding of the organisation, participation in
publicity activities, advertising and customer interaction through feedback collection.
