Pre-requisites: 5 pre-requisite modules on UNSW Engineering Industrial Training
• Writing a successful Resume and Cover Letter
• Interview Skills
• Career Planning and Networking Skills
• Workplace Behavior
• Industrial Training and Your Health and Safety
• Completed Employer Evaluations for approved placements
• Completed 60 days of approved Industrial Training

Assumed Knowledge: It is advised that students undertake their first placement after the end of year 2 so they have
some assumed knowledge of their program of study.

Course Description
“Exposure to professional engineering practice is a key element in differentiating a professional engineering degree
from an applied science degree” (Engineers Australia). In order to satisfy Engineers Australia’s expectations of a
graduating Engineer, students need to have exposure to professional practice. At UNSW, the program requirement
is for at least the equivalent of 60 days of relevant Industrial Training.

The Industrial Training pre-requisite modules must be completed prior to seeking pre-approval for any Industrial
Training placement. Once 60 days have been completed and confirmed on the Moodle site UNSW Engineering
Industrial Training, student will be enrolled by the Industrial Training Administrating team to ENGG4999 to submit
the Final Industrial Training report.

Teaching Strategies (Modes/Activities)
Students undertake Industrial Training either full time or part-time. It can be worked around their study, during term
break or elect to take one full academic term by applying for EN GG4998

Contact Hours
Students are required to complete 60 working days, which has been approved by their work place supervisor.

Content/Syllabus

The course includes the following content:

Completion of 5 Pre-requisite Modules

Undertake 60 days (can take up to 3 placements) of pre-approved Industrial Training

Complete 1 Evaluation form per placement

Complete 1 Final Written report once 60 days of Industrial Training has been approved

The assessment scheme in this course reflects the intention to assess your progress in the attainment of the
Course Learning Outcomes during the term.
