GO GETTER 4

OBJECTIVES
September: this first month is meeting your students mostly. The first day there shouldn´t be any books used.
Introductions, activities, go over class rules, etc.. As of the second day of class most, if not all students, should have
books. Go ahead and pick and choose activities from the UNIT 0 to do/go over in class. These are grammar and
vocabulary points which they should know but after a long summer need to refresh.

October – December:

This is your longest trimester. Make sure to do a minimum of 1 unit per month. If you can do a bit more while still
being creative, by all means do it. At the same time, I don´t want you to just rush through the units. Students need
to learn the material.

 Unit 1: Students here are going to learn Past Simple and Past Continuous. Teach it, repeat it, re-teach and
repeat and then go on… this is a difficult subject for 6ºprimary and I promise, they will see it again in the
future. Vocabulary is based on describing clothing and personalities
 Unit 2: Students will be learning modal verbs: have to, must, mustn´t, had to, and could. Most will have a
superficial understanding of them. Vocabulary is based on describing jobs and the difference between make
and do, expressions with take will also be in this unit
 Unit 3: This unit deals with the present perfect. At long last, students will understand why they´ve had to
learn their irregular verbs and especially the 3rd column. The biggest problem I think we´ll come across here
is students not knowing their irregular verbs and confusing the past simple for the participle. The unit
covers the present perfect with just yet already ever and never. Vocabulary here is sports oriented, they may
know the sports, but the sports equipment might be new to them

January – April:

This trimester seems like it´s long but it is shorter than the last. The missing holidays are palpable, believe me by the
end we are all feeling it, teachers, students and parents. Keeping this in mind, try to get as much done after the
Xmas holidays as possible, because once we enter April there´s a change in the air. Easter is right around the corner;
the weather is getting warmer and we all need a break.

 Unit 4: This unit covers the present perfect again, which is perfect after having already taught it before the
holidays. This way if there were any students struggling with it, they´ll get that extra reinforcement. This
unit will also cover for and since and the past simple. Vocabulary is based on films, books and different
stages of life.
 Unit 5: Here students use the future tenses: will and going to. They will also get their first contact with
relative pronouns (who, which, that and where) Vocabulary is based on music and crime
 Unit 6: This unit deals with the first conditional along with gerunds and infinitives. Vocabulary in this unit is
about the environment, nature and wild animals

April – June:

The last trimester is the shortest and usually the hardest. We have back to back holidays in May so it feels like we
never really get into a routine. Luckily, we should only have 2 units to cover and in June, we can have a revision,
projects, anything English related.

 Unit 7: This unit deals with the passives. It´s the students first glimpse into the passive and they will only be
learning present and past simple passive. Vocabulary is based on materials, inventions and discovery in
order to form passives. This skirt is made of wool (for example).
 Unit 8: Students will be revising the grammar tenses they´ve learned throughout the book. Vocabulary this
unit will be about relationships and feelings
