INTRODUCTION
The UST Multi-deck Carpark serves as a pay parking and a fourth-floor that houses
the College of Accountancy. The building was developed to serve the parking needs of
UST’s students, employees, visitors, and hospital clients/patients. In the new automated car
park, the attending personnel inputs the vehicle’s plate number into a computer which
releases a bar-coded parking ticket. When the vehicle leaves, the ticket is flashed into a
laser detector for the computer to automatically determine the parking fee, including the
value-added tax. The building also provides food stalls and restaurants that offer a wide
variety of food choices ranging from Filipino foods all the way to Japanese cuisine.
The UST Multi-deck Carpark was developed to offer a variety of stores that would
benefit the people near the park. This building is perhaps the most used facility in all of the
University’s structures every day due to its convenience and a huge selection of utilities.
HAZARDS
● The numerous food stalls inside the car park mostly use gas to cook their food.
● The parking area, in general, sustains high temperature due to the pieces of machinery
inside the building.
● There is a lack of ventilation system inside the car park.
● Lack of safe, segregated routes from the parking area to the workplace (including poor
surfaces, lighting, etc)
● The building lacks proper maintenance including the pipes and vents passing through the
parking area.
● The food stalls gather many students which narrow the path inside the car park.
RISKS
● Fire may erupt due to the gas tanks and the generally hot temperature
● AMV-building is concentrated in commercial activities and the safety of the students to
occupy the building is at risk
● The health of the students who buy food in the car park is at risk due to the smoke
coming from cars which may lead to potential food contamination
● Smoke can suffocate people and sometimes also contains toxic chemicals produced by
the burning substance.
● Crimes can also occur in parking areas, both against vehicles and against individuals who
use the car park as well as those who are working in the food stalls.
● Inadequate inspections of equipment and machinery may lead to short circuits or fires.
RECOMMENDATIONS
● Errant sparks could cause gas to ignite. Always be aware and do regular inspections for
any gas leaks.
● Place handy fire extinguishers in areas where food stalls are located. Check the condition
of the fire extinguisher monthly.
● Develop and produce proper ventilation at the carpark.
● Enforce and effectuate a fire safety plan.
● Use appropriate signage in the parking area for employees and visitors
● Do a general cleaning every six months and conduct an annual check of the equipment
installed in the facility
