Inclusion of GMRC in K To 12 Curriculum

The document discusses including Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC) as a subject in the K to 12 curriculum in the Philippines. GMRC was previously part of the basic education program but was removed and integrated into other subjects like Social Studies. The bill seeks to revive GMRC as a separate subject to guide youth in contemporary society. It argues that including GMRC is necessary because youth today lack proper role models due to the internet and are vulnerable to detrimental aspects of pop culture. GMRC would provide lessons on respect, values, and proper behavior to help mold students' personal development and attitude.

Inclusion of GMRC in K to 12 curriculum

What is Good manners and right Conduct?

GMRC: Acronym for "Good Manners and Right Conduct"
Good manners means acting in a manner that is socially acceptable and
respectful. Good manners convey respect to those you interact with, and also commands
respect from those you interact with.

Right conduct = right action.

In the old curriculum of our basic education program, a subject entitled

“Good Manners and Right Conduct” or GMRC, is part of the regular basic
education curriculum. Subsequently, it was scrapped as a regular
subject and integrated in Social Studies and other related subjects.

REVIVAL OF GOOD MANNERS AND RIGHT CONDUCT

ACT OF 2017

This bill seeks to revive GMRC and to include it as one of the separate
subjects in the revived K to 12 program in basic education.

The necessity for such revival stems from the observation that the
youth of today has a surplus age of role models for their behavior owing
to the information explosion in this age of the internet. Modernization in
a globalized village almost always results to confusion in the minds of
our youth as the variety of influences make them vulnerable to the
pervasive effects of pop culture, which is not always admirable and
worthy of emulation. In fact, there is a detrimental side of pop culture
which challenge (his inculcation of the basic tenets of the promotion
and observance of respect for oneself, others, and our elders, as well as
the teaching of the values of patience, perseverance, industry, honesty
and good faith in dealing with other human beings.

In view of such occurrence, it may be prudent to introduce in the

curriculum a “set menu’ of lessons on good manners and right conduct
so as to better guide our youth in facing contemporary society.

I agree of inclusion of GMRC in K to 12 curriculum first because, it

gives a lessons on proper behavior, and teach our young the values of
respect, love for self, others, family, community, country, and God. Because
nowadays most of our young are don’t have a proper behavior, like they
didn’t know how to say “opo” and even say “sorry” when they
unintentionally hurt that someone doing the favor. And also they did not
respect the older and lost their table manner. And second to be able the
teacher and parent control the children of longer exposed in using gadget
and internet. And also guide and mold the academic competencies of the
children and also their personal values to grow up with the right attitude.
And to be able the students learn to love their self, community, country, and
God. All this aspect are taught in Edukasyon sa Pagpakatao, and also they
learn about the national identity and nationalism are taught in Araling
Panlipunan.
