Hello! I decided to put everything together in this box into one post.

The post
contains error codes and description. Also a plate on the types of DSG and the
replacement of oil in them and on what machines were put.
All the important points I singled out!

It is precisely known that this box is put on a powerful all-wheel drive RS4 and
RS5. So engineers knew what they were doing and figured everything out. I hope they
did not add anything further :)

The DL-501 transmission, which has the service designation 0B5, was developed by
Audi in cooperation with BorgWarner. This seven-speed gearbox with two clutches is
designed for models with longitudinal engine arrangement and all-wheel drive
quattro. Like other dual-clutch transmissions from Audi, it received the trade name
S-tronic. Box 0B5 made its debut on the Audi Q5 in 2008. Later it was installed on
other Audi models: A4, A5, A6 and A7.
The causes of the problems that appear in 0B5 can be divided into three groups:
electrical, hydraulic and mechanical.

ELECTRICITY
Defect description: After some time after the start of the movement, the yellow
gear on the instrument panel lights up haphazardly. Sometimes the car moves at the
same time normally, and at times starts to switch hard or does not switch at all.

Possible fault codes:


8023, or P173E 00 (175) — valve 1 in the part of gearbox 1 — electrical fault;
8040, or P17D8 00 (044) — limiting the magnitude of the torque due to the coupling
temperature;
8025, or P173F 00 (109) — valve 2 in the part of gearbox 1 — electrical fault;
8030, or P179D 00 (40) — oil cooling valve — electrical fault.

The second most common fault is associated with the sensor module (printed circuit
board 3). This module combines the G676 included gear sensor and the G612 and G632
input shaft speed sensors. As any Hall sensors working in contact with hot oil,
they fail. Replacement is only possible with disassembly of the gearbox body, since
one of the mounting bolts of the sensor module is inside.

When disassembling the case, you should pay special attention to the following
points.
Turn the latch on the sensor module counterclockwise, at the beginning and end of
the rotation you should hear clicks.
After removing the lock, slide the sensor module connector inwards using the wooden
handle of the hammer:

This is necessary in order that there is no additional resistance when dividing the
case into halves.

Case number 2 (electrician)

Defect description : when warming up, the yellow gear on the instrument cluster
lights up, the car can stop moving and react to the gas pedal, the starter does not
fire after the ignition is switched off. Also, often the position of the selector
does not match its actual position. After turning off the ignition and waiting for
about 15-30 minutes. operability is restored.
Possible fault codes:
8056, or P179F 00 (175) — the sensor of the included gear — a malfunction;
8042, or P17C5 00 (101) — selector — an invalid signal. With this malfunction,
check the adjustment of the selector cable;
8056, or P179F 00 (040) — the gearshift sensor is malfunctioning;
8172, or P0919 00 (032) is the selector is an error.

The third and rarest malfunction associated with electronics 0B5 is the damage to
the oil pressure sensor and fork gauges. The pressure sensor is located inside the
electronic control unit and as a separate spare part is not supplied. But it can be
replaced neatly by a worker from another unit.

The malfunction of this sensor is diagnosed by a negative pressure value when the
engine is not running, it will show — 0.5 bar or less.
The fork sensors also use the Hall effect. In case of a fault, the computer has to
be completely changed, since the sensor board is not separately supplied. Worse,
the new electronic control unit is only supplied with the mechatronics unit. So the
malfunction of the fork detectors actually means buying the entire control unit.

It must be remembered that the replacement of the computer requires the removal of
the protection of electronic components, which has been activated for all Audi
since 2008. The VIN of the car is recorded in the mechatronics computer, so when
the unit is replaced due to the mismatch of the number in the transmission block
and in the on-board computer of the machine, the box will only work in emergency
mode. To unprotect components, you must contact an authorized Audi dealer, this
procedure requires an online connection to the server in Ingolstadt.

Case number 3 (electrician)


Defect description: the yellow gear on the instrument panel lights up haphazardly,
jerks and impacts can occur when the gears are engaged, it is possible to jump over
the gears when switching, or ride only on one of the two clutches when either even
transfers work or only odd.
Possible fault codes:
10048, or P1765 00 (109) — hydraulic pressure sensor G194 — the adaptation limit
has been reached.

HYDRAULICS
Problems with hydraulics are found in all boxes with age.
It is impossible to say exactly at what run they start — it depends on the
conditions of the car.
The most common problem is due to the wear of the oil pump. Oil pumps 0B5 are of
two types.
The first generation was installed from 2008 to about 2010, then, after analyzing
the breakdown of these pumps, German engineers made changes in their design. So
there was a second generation of oil pumps, which is produced until now. At least,
these pumps are on the units of 2014 release.
The first generation had a rather thick steel bushing, on which the compression
rings work.
Over time, a fissure appeared between the oil supply channels to the clutches in
the pump casing, which led to the simultaneous activation of both clutches, when
the transmission warmed up to an operating temperature of 90-110 degrees.

Case number 1 (hydraulics)


Defect description : When warming up, the rear gear "disappears". Or when warming
up the car can not enter the curb or on the hill in reverse — the clutch slips and
does not transfer the necessary moment.
Possible fault codes:
Usually, trouble codes are not fixed. Therefore for diagnostics it is possible to
use following signs:
the appearance of oil pressure in the drive of both clutches when driving in
reverse gear;
in the absence of movement in the position of the selector R and the subsequent
transfer of the selector to N, the car itself travels forward for a small distance
of 0.5-1.5 m;
Exceeding the engine torque when the selector R is set to 50 Nm.
Trying to prevent this malfunction, Audi engineers reduced the thickness of the oil
pump steel sleeve, thereby increasing the wall thickness of the pump itself.

Unfortunately, having solved one problem, they created another one. A thin bushing
under a constant local temperature action is deformed in such a way that a hump
appears in the vicinity of the oil clutch channels. You can see this by uneven
traces from the operation of compression rings or by measuring with a gage (the
same one used for checking cylinder liners for ovality and barrel-shaped).
At the same time, in the end, there is also a partial closure of both clutches
during warm-up, albeit to a lesser degree than for pumps of the first generation.

Case number 2 (hydraulics)


Defect description: jerks when switching in different modes, as well as delays when
the gear is engaged in the selector position of both D and R.
Possible fault codes: Often trouble codes do not appear.
The second most popular hydraulic damage is associated with an ejection pump.
Ejection pumps for each generation of oil pumps are not their own and are not
interchangeable.
The problems of these pumps are the same for both generations.

Often an additional oil drain breaks out, resulting in insufficient cooling of the
clutches. This leads to the "combustion" of the clutches and the general overheat
of the transmission.

Case number 3 (hydraulics)


Defect description : the appearance of the yellow gear on the instrument panel,
while feeling the car is working properly.
Possible fault codes: In general, fault codes are not recorded.
There is also a destruction of the seal inside the ejection pump at the place where
the valve is in contact with the metal ball (see photo). This can also lead to an
increase in operating temperature.

MECHANICS
By itself, the mechanical part of this transmission is reliable enough and rarely
requires attention to the mileage of 200 000-250 000 km.

This is actually a mechanical gearbox, and you need to inspect exactly the same
nodes as when repairing an ordinary box. Namely synchronizers, couplings, bearings
and gears.
Nevertheless, there are several problems.
The most common difficulty is the wear of the front clutch bearing and, as a
consequence, the clutch cover. There is a significant play in the bearing itself,
as well as in the clutch cover, since the outer race of the bearing starts to
rotate in the lid, thereby worn it.
This leads to a misalignment of the clutch relative to the longitudinal axis and a
disruption in the operation of the compression rings of the clutch, which in turn
leads to disturbances in the supply of oil to the clutches.
The bearing and cover can be ordered in accordance with the ETKA parts catalog. But
their cost is high enough.

Case 1 (mechanics)
Defect description: jerks when switching in different modes, as well as delays when
turning the gear on D or R, no reverse gear in the heated box.
Possible fault codes:
8093, or P176A 00 (032) — the gear selector 1 is not adjustable;
8092, or P176C 00 (175) — the gear selector 3 is not adjustable.
These faults appear when the clutch begins to "lead", that is, there is a
simultaneous short circuit of both clutches, which prevents mechatronics from
switching on the desired gear under certain conditions.
Also, the frequent cause of problems is a malfunction of the clutch due to wear,
aging or overheating.
At the same time, the clutch is not capable of transmitting the maximum torque and
begins to slip.

6th
Case 2 (mechanics)
Description of the defect: the appearance of the yellow gear on the dashboard, thus
there are overshoots when switching or the box goes into emergency mode while
driving. Significant shocks are possible when D and R.
Codes and Malfunctions:
8962, or P17D7 00 (032) — friction 1/2 — too much pressure;
8960, or P17D5 00 (044) — valve 3 in the part of the gearbox
2 — mechanical failure;
8350, or P060A (101) — control unit — internal process control.

CONCLUSION: The box is very reliable, it breaks not often, holds up to 550 points
officially and up to 800 unofficially :) is put on the charged audio RS4 and RS5.
since 2014 much has changed and finalized, so I hope to serve my faith and truth
for a long time … like there is a potential to charge the car to st.3 :)
So everything is very cool, not in vain chose such a box, because many of its
svapayut (or 500yu) myself instead of DK250.
