II. DESCRIPTIVE TITLE: SOCIO-CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY

III. COURSE DESCRIPTION

A study of the origin of people and their communities. Emphasis is placed on the
concepts that are interrelated and unified by understanding the development of society and
culture.

IV. VISION AND MISSION


VISION

Christ the King College, a Catholic Franciscan institution in Calbayog City, envisions
itself as a center of the development of human resources and of excellence in education,
with the special focus on Christian formation and preferential option for the poor, thereby
contributing to the local, national and global progress.

MISSION

Christ the King College commits to the integral formation of the students, the
promotion of excellence among the members of the school community, and the relevant
research and projects for the transformation of society.

V. GENERAL OBJECTIVES

A. Obtain actual information about our society and the different aspects of our social life.
B. Learn the application of scientific information to daily life and problems.
C. Develop the capacity to see through some of the conventional wisdoms of our society.
D. Understand the diversity and universality of human culture.
E. Analyze the various organizations: social, economic, political, religion and art around
the world.

PART I
A. The Nature and Scope of the Social Sciences
1. Give the meaning and scope of the social sciences.
2. Relate sociology, anthropology, and psychology.
3. Cite common observations about the social sciences.
4. Understand the research methods in the social sciences.
5. Give the functions and uses of the social sciences.
6. Enumerate the areas and fields of the social sciences.
PART II
B. Human and Cultural Origins
1. Distinguish paleontology, archaeology, anthropology, anthropology, and geology.
2. Know how the age of the earth and fossils are scientifically determined today.
3. Name in order the major geological periods.
4. Appreciate the importance of up-to-date references on prehistoric time.

5. Name some of the major findings of prehistoric remains.
6. Defend the Catholic church from the accusation that she does not recognize
scientific facts.
7. Distinguish between emergent and mechanical evolution.
8. State the major evidence in support of holding that there was evolution of the
human body.
9. Understand the oneness of the human race from the scientific viewpoint and from
the viewpoint of religion.

1. Define culture.
2. Enumerate the contents, function and patterns, and characteristics of culture.
