All students are required to submit proof of nursing licensure, malpractice insurance, health clearance and results of certified
background check (from Kean designated Certified Background Check). If the clinical setting requires additional information eg. Drug
testing, the student must have that done through Certified Background Check. The student is responsible for submitting a copy of all
required documentation, to be retained by the clinical instructor. The students are responsible for retaining their own copy and having
it available throughout the semester. NO STUDENT WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE CLINICAL SETTING if they fail to do so.
Please refer to the Student Handbook for the latest requirements. If a student is absent, for failure to submit documentation, they will
need to make up the requirements and will have two points deducted from the final grade for each absence. It is the student’s
responsibility to make sure the medical form is filled in completely. If a student has a positive PPD, there needs to be documentation
from the care provider stating that the student can be in the clinical experience interacting with clients.

HealthCare Financing Blackboard Assignment
Due: 11:59 pm Sunday - 4% of Final Grade
The healthcare environment is constantly changing to meet the need of the aggregate population. As healthcare professionals,
providing quality service is costly and the nurse leader must be able to understand the day-to-day financial management in order to
determine how best to keep the unit’s budget within the projected fiscal agenda. Knowledge about reimbursement methods, budgets,
budget variances, direct and indirect costs, and how it is related to productive and non-productive hours, and staffing, is essential for
the efficient way in how the unit operates. After reading Finkelman chapter 8; Yoder-Wise chapters 2 and 12, answer the following
questions. Your post must be robust with depth and clarity. Include at least three (3) scholarly references.
1. Discuss the purpose of and relationships among the operating, cash, and capital budgets and how the nurse leader interprets the
budget as it correlate to patient census, productivity (e.g. Personal hours used by staff, patient acuity, supplies etc.).
2. A. Review the following agencies that influence quality and patient safety:
1. Institute of Medicine (IOM)
2. Agency for healthcare research and quality (AHRQ)

Quality Improvement process follows a specific process to plan, implement, and evaluate changes in healthcare. It begins with
selecting a clinical activity for review. There are clinical practice guidelines and standards that reflect best practices.
1) Identify one issue or area that you observed during the nurse leader interview or during the QI meeting requiring change for
patient outcomes.
Using the Plan Do Study Act (PDSA) cycle, Write a ten (10) page paper about the above quality improvement project and its
process by:
a) Identifying the need for change
b) Review the literature and evidence-based practices (EBP) to support change and select a solution for change.
c) Adapt the Change Theory as a framework to the QI project and explain how it can be used in the implementation.
d) Indicate the inter-professional team you would choose to review the area of change.
e) Select the tools/methods of data collection to measure status of change and indicate how data is collected (weekly,
monthly or quarterly). State who would be collecting the data.
f) Discuss how data would be analyzed and create a chart such as flow chart, line graph, fishbone diagram, histogram or a
pie chart to analyze data
g) Establish measureable quality outcomes by using a benchmark and nurse-sensitive indicators
h) Select and give a detailed account of how plan would be implemented to meet outcomes
i) Estimate what the projected data collection would be to evaluate the implementation, and note if achievement outcomes
were met (Search the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) and compare your retrospective or
projected data

A profession is more than a title (nursing, teaching etc.). It includes several entities and characteristics such as body of
knowledge (research), distinguishes autonomy, responsibility and accountability. A professional organization according
to Finkelman (2019) “is a group that has specific goals, objectives, and functions that relate to the mission of a specific
profession” (p. 22). It is essential that a professional nurse is a part of a professional organization. It provides
knowledge, a platform for innovative changes, growth, professional development, and changes in healthcare policies
and practices.
For this assignment, students must select a professional organization, attend one of the meetings and write a 3-4-page
summary of the meeting. Professional organization includes New Jersey Board of Nursing, New Jersey State Nurses
Associations, Black Nurses Association, Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses, etc). Include in the paper the
following:
a. Date; Start and end times of meeting
b. Location
c. Identify the organization’s purpose and history and membership responsibility
d. Identify the members present (president, treasurer, etc.)
e. Who chaired the meeting (president, vice-president)
f. Discuss the agenda and its relevance to the organization purpose (Include a copy of the agenda for the
meeting or copy of sign-in sheet)
