These are several important reasons for acknowledging the source of your ideas, except:

a) to support your argument through referring to 'authorities' or well-respected people or scholarly


works;

b) to enable others to consult sources with ease to, for example, get a deeper understanding of the
issue you are addressing or to confirm your interpretation;
c) to provide evidence of wide reading and research; and
d) as an academic courtesy and indication of academic dishonesty.
