Introduction

Nowadays, every school has to have computers. It refers to automated electronic machinery.

Students, faculty and staff have access to the computer laboratory, which provide the tools and

technologies to produce websites, edit papers, complete class assignments, communicate via email,

conduct data analysis and access library resources. Computers allow students to perform good

research and also communicate with different education providers. Computers also help teachers in

recording grades, calculate the average, and keep track of students to see if they are present or

absent. (ashlandtech.org,2015)

These devices have a wide application in the modern days. There are used in hospitals,

blanks, schools, research centers and office in performing certain task. They have played an

important role in revolutionizing life-either indirectly or directly. They are extremely important in the

learning institutions. It has its own benefits too, such as saving time, online tools, tutoring, knowledge

and skills for future, and access to information. (www.operationsharing.com)

There are several reasons why the researchers conducted this study, foremost, every school

and teacher re-invents the wheel, trying to find good software, trying to work out how to fit it into the

classroom curriculum, trying to work out schedules to make sure every student gets a fair go,

struggling with the lack of technical support. And of course, in many cases, computers in school are

old with associated problems.

The researchers will conduct this study to know how efficient and effective the computer

facilities are and to know what behaviors are most likely shown by students in handling this computer

facilities.
Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the contentment of Senior High School students regarding computer
facilities and the behavior of the students in handling these facilities. Specifically, it sought to answer
the following questions:

1 .What computer facilities lack in school?

2. What behavior mostly shown by the Senior High School students in handling these computer
facilities?

3. What mostly are the feedback of the Senior High School students regarding the computer
facilities?

Significance of the Study:

The results of the study will be a great help to the following:

To the Student. The result will give them vast knowledge on how to use computers correctly and it
will help them in using much more efficient computer facilities in doing paper works and printed
materials and they can work much more easily once the facilities are upgraded.

To the Teachers. It will help them in teaching more about the Computer Technology subject and to
know what part of a computer facility needs to be developed.

To the Parents. It will help them feel more comfortable if they knew that their own child will
experience good learnings about Computer Technology.

To the Future Researchers. It will help them to base their own studies about Computer Technology
and this study will help them in the near future.

Scope and Delimitations:

This study focuses on the contentment of SHS students regarding computer facilities and
behavior of the students in handling computer facilities. The study is limited only for Senior High
School students who are under the ICT subject. This study will be conducted at Norala National High

Review of Related Literature

Recently, every other student has access to technology be it in school or at home. Computers
have become a necessary part of teaching students in schools and classrooms are being equipped
with computer systems to impart education to students. Nowadays, every student prefers Internet
learning whether it is for home works, study notes, projects, or for exam preparation. This is why
computer skills should be adopted by students in school life only; not only these skills are beneficial
for their studies but also they can excel in other spheres like for professional purpose or for personal
use. Where computers, laptops as well as mobiles have advanced and improved our lifestyle there
are certain negative impacts too which can be harmful to long-term if timely actions are not taken to
reduce them.(Anjum Khan, 2018)

Every computers, from middle-aged to latest, perform the same basic functions with digital
information.

Basic Functions of a Computer

Input, function that receive and accepts information from outside sources. Output, function in
which the results of the processing are made available for use by any user or other devices.
Processing, this is really the core of the computer operation. The computer processes the data is fed
to the computer by various means. Storage, a function that stores information in the computer.
.Retrieve, function that recalls a list of addresses. (passnownow.com)

Computers have supplied infinite resources for learning and made education more flexible and
easy to access. Students can now gain knowledge and info. Not only from classroom assignment and
libraries but also from available online resources. (olpccanada.com)

Computer Facilities or Labs are located across campus and available to students, staff and
instructors who need access to computers, specific software, or printing.(technology.berkerley.edu)

Computer laboratories

Students , faculty and staff have access to the computer labs which provide the tools and
technologies to produce website, edit papers, complete class assignment, communicate via email,
conduct data analysis and access library resources. Microsoft window software is available for word
processing, statistics, spreadsheets and database management. A variety of graphic and website
creation software programs are also available.(socialwork.uw.edu)

Importance of Computer Education to Students

Technology has struggled to find its way into the classroom in all sorts of ways, from projectors
and television to computer labs and student laptops. Along with improving the way students are
taught, it is also vitally important that students learn to use computers to improve their own work and
prepare for careers in a world where computers have become as common as the pencil and paper.

Advantages of Computer skills for students in their School life

Great help with studies and in making a career choice

Computer skills not only as a subject but is also helpful in other subjects and extracurricular.
Students can make great projects, presentations art and crafts, image editing, video editing or join
social media groups to enhance computer skills or learn new skills like animation, programming etc.

Improves academic performance and interest

With computer skills students adapt to a modern approach to learning, they gain knowledge as
well as learn new skills so that they can take up challenges like cyber Olympiads, quiz competitions
etc.

Smart development

Students mastering computer skills become more advanced and quick learners because they
adapt to a new subjected or technical things easily as compared with students who lack in computer
skills. Today, when technology is innovating and, is being implemented in every other thing be it,
education, shopping or businesses it is essential that students master the computer skills so that they
are not left behind in the technical environment.

It is essential for every other student to learn basic computer skills and also awareness about
cyber crimes. However, students should understand the correct and ethical use of these skills. Read
this article to enhance your knowledge about advantages and disadvantages of computer skills for
school students.( Anjum Khan, 2018)

Effect of computer to students

The use of computers in class can therefore encourage students to procrastinate, and reduces
the efficiency of the time they spend bin class. This effect is generally reinforced by another
manifestation of the optimism bias, regarding students belief in their aptitude to multitask.

(Sciences Po, 2017)

Problems With Technology In Classrooms

The main argument for technology in the classroom is that emerging students should be able
to apply classroom concepts to daily life, and a large part of daily life revolves around technology.

Students today are apt at using technology, and tools such as laptops, smart phones, and
tablets are already second nature to them. Taking technology out of the learning equation would be
alienating an integral part of the students abilities.
Pace of Change & Cost

Not all schools can keep up with the rapidly changing technology. Upgrading equipment is
often costly and schools may not have the manpower to handle the equipment. Most classrooms
contain at least twenty students, which can take up a great deal of internet bandwidth in the instance
that they all must access their laptop or tablet at once. Likewise, new hires may be necessary for
teaching students how to use the newer digital media, yet another expense to the school.

Difference social dynamics

Technology adds complexity to everything-support, teaching, learning, budgets, etc. It’s

inherently ‘disurptive’. Take for example the added social dynamics of modern technology. Privacy,
footprint, and digital citizenship are all as important as the content being learned and how learning is
being measured. Even entirely new approaches like eLearning don’t offr the same social benefits of a
regular school. Without a classroom where students can form friendships and relationships with their
peers, they may not learn the same social cues as regular students. Without any real face-to-face
time with their teacher, they may take the classes less seriously.

Distraction

Many teachers believe that smartphones and tablets, with internet connectivity and text
messaging services, can merely be a source of distraction for students as opposed to a learning tool.
It may be difficult for a teacher to monitor her students so closely in class as to determine whether
they are utilizing educational apps on their tablets or browsing Facebook. The teacher must decide
whether or not to use filtered browsing on the devices to cut down on distractions, which might not be
an option if the child owns the device.

Lack of alignment between technology, curriculum, and instruction

There are also discrepancies as to how much of a crutch technology can be a student. Schools
once debated about whether or not certain types of calculators should be allowed in class, as they
essentially solved the problems for students that struggled with math. The same may be true for apps
that supply quick, accessible answers for problems that a student should actually be thinking about in
greater depth.

Lack of clarity about the purpose of ‘school’

Teachers worry that while the technology is engaging on a creative level, the students may be
missing out on basic concepts like math and language. Other proponents of technology point out that
standardized test scores may not be the best gauge of students intelligence and creativity. Still others
yet reason that there’s no reason to spend millions well-earned tax dollars on a system before
knowing whether or not it is sincerely helpful for educational growth. (TeachToughStaff, 2019)
Review of Related Studies

This article reports the results of a status survey of computer facilities currently available to
education faculty and students. Specifically, the survey sought to identify the organization and
management of computer laboratory, classrooms, and other facilities provided to support teacher
training activities. This study focused only in planning and organizing educational computer facilities
while this present study will focus on the computer facilities that lack in school.(Janet Parker, 2014.

This related study was designed to examine the students satisfaction with existing facilities
provided by their university same through with the purpose of this current study. The only difference is
that this related studies main objective was to weigh students satisfaction related with the campus
facilities which includes library resources use of AV aids, internet and objectives is the satisfaction of
students limited only to computer facilities.(Fauzia Khurshid and Mahek Arshad, 2012. This study
conducted entitled as “Students Satisfaction with Campus Facilities”)

This study presents an assessment of the computer laboratory learning environment attitude
towards computer and computer courses. This study is similar to the current study for it focuses on
the use of computers and attitude of the students in handling it while the difference is that, this study
assess students perceptions about their computer laboratory instruments and learning environment
while this current study aims to know the contentment of students when it comes to computer
facilities.(Arpana Koul, Mool Raj and Adit Gupta, 2018. This study conducted entitled as “Assessing
the Computer Laboratory Learning Environments in relation to the students attitudes towards
computers”)

This survey research was aimed at identifying the ICT facilities, skills, usage, and the problems
faced by the students of higher education while using ICT. Similar to this current study is the
problems faced by the majority of the student in using ICT facilities example slow speed of
computers, signal problem in internet, virus threat, poor working condition of computers, load
shedding and lack of access of internet. The different is that, the study also aim to improve the
problems of students at the universities.(Aihah Siddiquah, Zeema Sahm, 2017. This study conducted
entitled as “The ICT Facilities, skill, usage and the Problems Faced by the students of Higher
Education”)

This study focuses on the qualitative approach presenting its nature, discussing its
relationships to the quantitative research approach and addressing its application in general and in
the context of computer science education in particular while the researchers current study focuses
on the contentment of students computer facilities.(Orit Hazzan, Yael Dubinsky, Larisa Eidelman,
Victoria Sakhnini, Mariana Teif, This study conducted entitled as “Qualitative Research in Computer
Science Education”)
