CHAPTER 5

Mind Maps: It is used to represent our ideas & concepts in a graphical way.

It is a visual thinking tool that helps structuring information, helping you to better analyze, comprehend,
synthesize, recall and generate new ideas.

To create mind map we use a software named VUE.

VUE: Full form of VUE is Visual Understanding Environment.

Why to use Mind Map ?

Mind mapping is a tool that creates overviews that are exciting, fun, and interesting to look at for our
brains. We feed not just words into our brain, but also images and colours. The end result is that
information is much better remembered.

A mind map has a clear and simple structure. Information is stored in branches. All the information in a
branch is related to each other. The result is that you can quickly find out what something means, what
the implication of the information is, etc. You save time and energy this way. When you create a mind
map, it is fun to do. You are not thinking about work or making things difficult for yourself. You get to
doodle and still create something valuable.

Where to use Mind Map ?

a) Note taking
b) Brainstorming (individually or in groups)
c) Problem solving
d) Studying and memorization
e) Planning
f) Researching and consolidating information from multiple sources
g) Presenting information
h) Gaining insight on complex subjects
LAB SESSION

1. How to open VUE ?


a) Put your mouse tp the top right screen,
b) Left click on search icon,
c) On search bar type VUE,
d) Left click on VUE Icon.

2. How to draw Link & Node ?


Node : Boxes inside which we write are Nodes,
Link: Arrows we create between these boxes are called Links.

To create node click on this icon highlighted in yellow color, then draw using mouse on empty
map.
To create Link click on this icon highlighted in yellow color, and draw by selecting first node to
second node just like you draw a line on paper.

3. Create Node & Links using these keywords, “ Hardware, Software, Input Device, Output
Device,Computer “.

Our mindmap will look like this:

4. Continuing Q3, How to save our recent created Mind Map file ?
a) Left click on file menu on top left,
b) Then choose submenu save as,
c) Type file name as class then your name (8 A Saurabh),
d) Left click save button.
5. Create a mind map file on “Pollution & its effects on Environment”, First draw mindmap on your
notebook, then on VUE.

6. Create a mind map file on “Education & its impact on society”, First draw mindmap on your
notebook, then on VUE.
7. How Open your previously saved mindmap file ?
a) Open VUE,
b) Left click on file menu,
c) Then Choose submenu Open,
d) Find for the folder where you saved it earlier,
e) Left click on your file,
f) Left click open button.

Formatting Palette: It is used to Change Shape of the Node, its background color, its border
style , its border size,Link Color, Link Type,Font size of Node, Font style of Node, Font Color of
Node, To make node text bold,italic or underline it, To make ordered & Unordered Lists,

It can be opened by clicking on windows menu of VUE,

On clicking windows we get submenu options like:


On clicking on formatting Palette, a box will popup,

To change shape of the Node click shape dropdown menu:

To change background Color of Node Click Fill option:


To change Node border Click Stroke dropdown menu:

To change Node border size click weight dropdown menu:

To change Text Font click on Text font drop down menu:

To change Text Size click on Text size drop down menu:


To change Text Color click on Style Color option:

To make Text Bold click on Bold option:

To make Text Italic click on Italic option:

To make Text Underline click on Underline option:


To make ordered list, Click the ordered list option:

To make unordered list, Click this unordered list option:

To align Text to Left click on this option:

To align Text to Center click on this option:


To align Text to Right click on this option:

To change Line Shape Click on the Line drop down menu:

To Change the way either line should have Arrow at Start node or not Click on this option:

To Change the way either line should have Arrow at Start node or not Click on this option:
This option can be used as both either to Change Line color or Node Border Color:

8. Continuing Q5, Open your file which you created for Q5, Change color & Shape of Nodes, Color
of Links, Font Size of Text. Save this file in C:/user/madhur/gmsbv/class.

9. Continuing Q6, Open your file which you created for Q5, Change color & Shape of Nodes, Color
of Links, Font Size of Text. Save this file in C:/user/madhur/gmsbv/class.

10. Create mind-map for Human Digestive System using VUE. Keep Node shape as oval, Node
background of Light yellow color, Node border of dotted line & size of 2px. Link of Green Color,
Font size 14, Font color Blue, Node Text as underlined.
