Dear Sir/Madam,
I write for and on behalf of Mr. Asare Kotor regarding his application to participate in a training
programme at the Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (JIAS) during the Writing
Fellowships 2020 in South Africa. I have known and worked with Mr. Asare since 2014 in my
capacity as a research mentor and colleague. I worked with the applicant during his preparation
for his MPhil viva voce in 2014 and have since worked closely with him as a faculty member
and research colleague. Currently, we both teach second year educational psychology course at
the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, University of Education, Kumasi campus. Mr. Asare
is a PhD student at the Department of …, University of South Africa, where he is working on a
comparative study on the foundation stage teachers’ between Ghana and South Africa.
During the period that I have known and worked with Mr. Asare, he has demonstrated excellence
in his assigned tasks, and shown keen interest in research and teaching. Mr. Asare is a key
member of our faculty research group and always asks several probing questions during faculty
academic seminars. He has a firm conceptual and practical grasp of the scientific research
processes and demonstrates originality in his thoughts. His level of creativity in generating
research ideas and contribution to academic discussions in his field of study is unparalleled. The
applicant has the ability to learn new concepts quickly and communicate them efficiently.
Mr. Asare has good analytical and critical thinking skills, and exercises sound judgment and
independent thinking when faced with critical issues. He is very organized, a team player, and
has a high sense of time. He speaks and writes excellent English and communicates his research
ideas in a clear and comprehensible manner.
I am very confident that Mr. Asare has the required training, exposure, and an independent mind
to participate in the 2020 writing fellowships in Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study. His
inclusion in this writing fellowship will not only offer him the opportunity to hone his research
skills, but also, it will allow him to bring his unique cultural and research experiences to bear on
the training programme. I thus unreservedly recommend him for the writing fellowship in JIAS.
Yours sincerely,
