RNAV

 little  remainder,  not  official  but  useful.

Planning  phase

• Check  aircraft  technical  status,  any  impact  on  RNAV  capabilities?
• Check  raim  predictions  (eurocontrol  augur  site);

“In  flight”  phase
Approach  preparation

Procedura  RNAV  con  VNAV  minima:

Vanno  volate  esclusivamente  fully  managed  in  FINAL  APP  (OM-‐B  2.3.18.1.2  cross
reference  table+  OM-‐A  8.4.5.2  the  app  will  bw  flown  in  LNAV/VNAV  modes  and
the  A/P  shall  be  used).  Viene  pubblicata  una  promulgated  temperature  sulle
charts,  nelle  note,  in  calce  alla  pagina.  Dice:  “uncompensated  baro  vnav  NA  below
–xx  deg  C,  or  above  yy  deg  C  (vedi  Fiumicino).

guidance  (VOR,  LOC,  NDB,  if  coded  in  FMS):

Per  quanto  ne  so,  non  hanno  una  promulgated  temp  associata.
Si  possono  volare  fully  managed  a  meno  che:
-‐ temp  corrections  are  required  (surface  temp  is  -‐10  deg  C  or  below)  OM-‐A
8.1.1.3.1;
-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐
In  other  words:
If  cold  temp  corrections  are  needed  only  selected  descent  is  possible  (FPA/VS,
FinalApp  is  not  permitted);

For  procedure  with  a  VNAV  minima:  below  the  temperature  published  on  the
chart  the  VNAV  minima  cannot  be  used,  i.e.  use  a  LNAV  minima  if  present  (in
selected  descent  mode)  or  fly  another  type  of  approach.

Take  a  look  at  the  PROG  Page/  GPS  raims  predictions,  if  says  N  N  N    you  may
expect  a  possible  GPS  outage.  HOWEVER  that  is  only  a  prediction,  as  long  as  GPS
is  PRIMARY  you  are  good  to  continue.

• Identify:  FDP,FAF,  MAP  (on  or  close  to  RWY  threshold?),  reference  point
for  Distance  vs  Altitude  checks  (insert  this  point  on  PROG  Page);
• Mitigate  FMGS  created  intermediate  “strange,  not  published”  level  off
altitudes:  insert  AT  Altitude  (platform)  at  FDP.

Approach  briefing

 Strategy:
• decelerated/Fully  Managed  vs  early  decel  /Vertivally  selected;
• VNAV  or  LNAV  minima?

Contingency:
• Brief  what  is  relevant  according  to  weather  conditions  (es.  if  VMC,  in  case
of  degradation  of  nav  capabilities:  continue  visually)
• Failures  that  require  a  go  around:
o ECAM:  NAV  FM/GPS  POSITION  DISAGREE
o PDF/MCDU:  GPS  PRYMARY  LOST  (on  BOTH  sides)
o PDF/MCDU:  NAV  ACCUR  DOWNGRAD  (on  BOTH  sides).
o If  the  either  of  last  2  messages  appears  ONLY    on  one  side  you  may
continue  referring  the  “good”  side
o Any  open  ECAM  below  1000  feet

How  to  fly
• Sequencing  of  flt  plan  via  use  of  DIR  TO  RAD  Inbound  if  radar  vectors;
• Push  APPR  when  the  FDP  is  the  TO  wpt  and  cleared  for  approach  Verify
blue  arrow  is  displayed;
• If  descending  selected:  1  NM  prior  FDP  push  FPA/VS,  dial  path  angle,  0.3
NM  before  FDP  pull  FPA  turn  knob
• If  descending  selected  PM  reads  ALT  vs  DIST,  correct  1.0  degrees/100feet
error;
• At  minimum:  what  do  I  need  to  see?  (at  least  one  reference,  any
reference);
• Use  of  AP  until:  (visual,    at  minima,  minimum  AP  use  altitude,  MDA?);
• Use  of  FDs  (until  visual,  until  rwy  threshold  [think  wx  conditions],  what  to
say  to  remove  them  [both  FDs  OFF,  A/THR  ???,  bird  ON,  set  rwy  track
xyz]);

Nice  to  remember

In  order  to  have  a  blue  arrow:
• Approach  phase  must  be  active  and  DECEL  point  sequenced;
• NAV  or  APP  NAV  must  be  engaged;
• FINAL  is  blue  (armed);
• Predictions  are  available  on  FMS;
• A/C  must  fly  through  the  capture  area  (+/_  1.5  NM  laterally  +/_  150  feet
vert  from  FDP);
• A/C  intercept  a  descending  leg  of  the  vertical  flight  path.

FMS   profile   cannot   be   changed   for   the   final   app   segment   (except   inserting   a
speed  constraint  at  FDP,  but  we  can  insert  an  AT  altitude  before  the  FDP  to  get
rid  of  the  FMS  generated  “odd”  level  off  segments.

When   Final   APP   is   used   the   FDs   provide   guidance   down   to   the   MAP.   AP   and   FDs
can   remain   engaged   BELOW   minima.   However   the   guidance   may   not   be   relevant
if:
• MAP  not  at  RWY  threshold  and  final  segment  not  aligned  with  rwy  track
(final  segment  does  not  cross  the  rwy  threshold)
• Strong  offset  between  final  segment  and  rwy  track.

Minimum  altitude  for  A/P  use  in  FINAL  APP,  V?S  or  FPA  mode:  250  ft  AGL.
