Cot - Cinto - Mathq4

This lesson plan is for grades 3 and 4 and focuses on interpreting data presented in bar graphs. Students will review interpreting pictographs and be introduced to vertical and horizontal bar graphs. They will learn to identify the parts of bar graphs, such as title and labels. Students will work in groups to interpret sample bar graphs and answer questions about the data. The teacher will demonstrate how to read bar graphs and ensure students understand how to interpret the information presented.

A. Preliminary Activities.
2. Setting of Classroom Rules

A.1. Drill Have a drill on solving number sentences involving multiplication and division.
A.2.Review a. Review previous lesson
Have a review on interpreting data presented in a pictograph.

1. What is the title of the pictograph?

2. What are being compared?
3. What is the legend? Who made the least number
of flowers?
4. What is the total number of flowers made by
Juwan and Zaira?
5. How many flowers were made by Zephora and Sarah?
A.3.Motivation - Let the learners watch the video presented and let them also answer the
questions asked in the video.

Say: What can you say about the video?, How will you interpret the bar graph?,
What are the parts of the bar graph?, What is the title of the bar graph in the
video?

- Showing of different color & length of blocks.

Infusion of Values: Observant

B. Developmental Activities: Present a bar graph. Let the learners study the bar graph.
1.Presentation of the Lesson

Ask:
What does this bar graph shows?
Which color is the most favorite of the students?
Which color is the least favorite of the students?
How many students color red is their favorite?
How many more students green is their favorite than yellow?
Why do most of the students blue is their favorite color?

Integration:
Art : The primary colors.

Present another bar graph. Say: Let’s have another example. Look at the bar
graph.

Ask:
What does the graph show?
Which item had greater number of sold?
Which item had the least number of sales?
How many items sold in highlighter?
Does this graph show the same number of items sold?
How do you know?
Why do you think clipboard is the least item sold?
Would the information be useful for the stores?
Do you need to buy things which you are not needed?

Integration:
Values: Be thrifty

Skill: Can interpret simple bar graph

Problem: What do you do to interpret the data and information in the graph?
GB.2.Presenting Present a vertical bar graph and a horizontal bar graph with parts and let the
Examples/Instances of learners interpret the data.
New Lesson

Ask: How many parts do a vertical and a horizontal bar graph have?
What are those parts? What is the difference between a vertical bar graph and a
horizontal bar graph?
Looking at the bar graph, can you interpret? How?
Why is it important to have an accurate data?

B.3. Group Work  Setting of Standards for group Work

 Group Work Activities

Group the class into four.

Giving activity sheets involving vertical bar graph and horizontal bar graph to each
group for interpretation.
Group to work together in reading and interpreting the data. Enough time to do
the task given. When they finished, the leader of each group will display its
output on the board and discuss its answers.

Skill: Interpret the data.

Problem: How can you interpret the data in a bar graph both in vertical and
horizontal form?

B. 4. Reporting *Setting the standards for reporting.

Let each group discuss its interpretation of the data of each vertical bar graph and
horizontal bar graph.

*Processing the activities

Ask: How did you find the activity?
What did you do to interpret the data in the graph?
Do you have the same interpretation? Why? Why not?

Discuss to the learners how to interpret data presented in a vertical bar graph and
a horizontal bar graph.

B.5.Developing Mastery Do Activities 1 and 2 in the LM P. 323- Discuss the presentation under Explore
Leads to Assessment 325 and Discover on pages 246 and 247, LM
Math Grade 4

Let the learners work the on the items

Checking the activities in 1 & 2 under Get Moving and the items under
Keep Moving on pages 242 and 243, LM
Math Grade 4.

Check the work of the learners.

Let the learners answer the activity 3
on page 325-326 and the activity sheet
given by the teacher.

Self-correction
Check the work of the learners

5B .6.Summarizing the Skill: Interpret the data gather in a horizontal and vertical bar graph.
Lesson/Making
Generalizations Problem: How do we read and interpret a bar graph?
What are the parts of the bar graph?
What is the difference between the horizontal and vertical bar graph?

Concept:
Identify the title of the bar graph. Read and analyze the information given in the
horizontal and vertical axis. There are two axes, group data and frequency data.
The difference between the horizontal and vertical bar graph.
In horizontal bar graph the vertical axis is the group data, while the horizontal axis
is the frequency data.
While, in the vertical bar graph the horizontal axis is the group data, while the
vertical axis is the frequency data.

B.7.Application Let the learners answer the Activity 4 Let the learners do the items under the
and 5 in LM p. 326-328 activity on Apply Your Skills on page
249, LM Math Grade 4

C. Evaluating Learning Do the activity 6 in LM. Let them write Study the bar graphs then, answer the
their answers on the paper. questions below.
Additional Activities for
application or
remediation
