METHOD STATEMENT FOR DISMANTLEMENT AND RELOCATION OF TEMPORARY BRIDGE AND

STORAGE YARD OF CH 131 AND CH 136

1.0 GENERAL

1.1 The purpose of this method statement is to outline the method and construction
procedure required to carry out Dismantlement and Relocation of temporary bridge and
storage yard of CH 131 and CH 136.

1.2 Detail of the procedures contained herein may be reviewed periodically and modified
based on actual requirement.

2.0 DISMANTLEMENT OF TEMPORARY BRIDGE CH 131

2.1 The sequence of dismantling starting from Pier 1 towards Pier 12

1 2 3 67 10 11 12

2.2 The machineries and man power to be use as follows

1. 1 unit 75 tons crawler crane (provided by cccc).

2. 1 unit 25 ton crawler crane (provided by cccc).
3. 1 unit vibro hammer (provided by cccc).
4. 1 unit excavator with concrete breaker.
5. 1 unit 40 footer trailer.
6. 1 unit 20 ton mobile crane .
7. 1 unit 80 KVA generator set (provided by cccc).
8. 1 unit welding set.
9. 2 sets of oxy cutting.
10. 5 skill workers and 5 general labour

2.3 Excavate and demolish the abutment concrete and approach bridge to expose the
steel pipe.

2
2.4 Drive 2 numbers ( N1 and N2 ) of a new temporary steel pipe piles at a length equivalent to
the existing length for the pier.
2.5 These piles were driven first for the first 3 span of the bridge.
2.6 The piles position should have a tolerance in such that the Vibro Hammer does not hit the
Bailey’s beam .
2.7 The level of pipe piles must be in such that the new I-Beam that to be install can fit through
between the Bailey’s beam soffit.

3
2.8 Dismantle the 25# Steel Channel of the bridge deck and the bridge railings by cutting the
welding joints using oxy cut for that particular 12m span.

2.9 Dismantle and loosen the 20# I-Distribution beam for the 1st 6m of that 12m span.

2.10 Install a new I-Beam on to the new piles ( N1 & N2 ) with the tolerance so that the
I- Beam can be easily fit on the piles underneath the Bailey’s Beam.

4
5
2.11 The I-Beam to use recommended in 12m length ( provided by cccc )
2.12 The steps as follows
Make holes at the beam for the hook to go in so that the crane can hang the beam at
interval distance of the distance between the Bailey’s beam ( ‘A’ , ‘B’ , ‘C’, ‘D’ ).

2.13 Initially hang the beam at points ‘A’ with equal distance of 1.0 m from the centre so that
the beam is balance when hang.
2.14 Insert one end underneath the Bailey’s Beam until the rope ( point ‘A’ ) touch the
Bailey’s Beam.

2.15 Tie the I-Beam to the Bailey’s Beam so that when the crane’s rope removed the I-Beam
does not fall.
2.16 Remove the crane’s rope from point ‘A’ and fix to point ‘B’.
2.17 Hang and push the I-Beam further in until the rope ( point ‘B’ ) touch the Bailey’s Beam.
2.18 Tie the I-Beam to the Bailey’s Beam so that when the crane’s rope removed the I-Beam
does not fall.
2.19 Remove the crane’s rope from point ‘B’ and fix to point ‘C’.
2.20 Hang and push the I-Beam further in until the rope ( point ‘C’ ) touch the Bailey’s Beam.

6
2.21 Tie the I-Beam to the Bailey’s Beam so that when the crane’s rope removed the I-Beam
does not fall.
2.22 Remove the crane’s rope from point ‘C’ and fix to point ‘D’.

2.23 Hang and push the I-Beam further in until the centre of the I-Beam in the centre of the
bridge.
2.24 Hang and push the I-Beam towards the Piles N1 & N2.
2.25 Align and secure the I-Beam on top of the piles N1 & N2.
2.26 Hang the Bailey’s Beams and insert steel plates to fill up the gap between the I-Beam
and Bailey’s Beam.

7
2.27 Secure and fix back the 20# I-Distribution beam and 25# Steel Channel for deck slab for
that 6m span for crane platform.
2.28 Extract the steel pipe piles for the pier.
2.29 Dismantle 25# Steel Channel for deck slab, 20# I- Beam , Bailey’s beam and the 25# I-
Beam for the 6m span for the item 2.10 to 2.12.
2.30 Extract the new temporary steel pipe piles as item 2.6.

8
2.31 Repeat the process from item 2.4 to 2.30 until the whole structure being dismantled and
transported.

2.32 Dismantle the hording and container and relocate to the relocation site as directed.
2.33 Clear all the debris and dump it to the relocation site as directed.

9
3.0 DISMANTLEMENT AND RELOCATION OF STORAGE YARD CH 131

3.1 The works for dismantlement and relocation of storage yard CH 131 will start
