Detailed Brief for Individual/Group Assessment
The title of the assignment: Literature Review

Description of the assignment:

This assignment requires you to write a Literature Review based on the project proposal you
created for assignment 1. You are required to carry out a search of the secondary literature
related to your proposal (though could change your focus based on feedback you have
received from assignment 1). Identify a range of reliable and valid sources of secondary
information.

Any specific instructions:

Create a research report in the form of a literature review based on the proposal you developed
in assignment 1. The literature review must reference your chosen topic.

1) A PRUDENT BUSINESS MODEL OR A BAD NEIGHBOUR? – ‘How UBER has disrupted

the London taxi industry’.
Coined as the global app-based cab company who turned the smart phone into a
remote control for Uber cabs, an organisation that provides customers with a
frictionless customer experience. Uber has fought for its right to operate in London,
after overturning a ruling by the Transport for London not to renew its license, much to
the dismay of Black London cabs.

2) GIG-ECONOMIES: ARE ZERO-HOUR CONTRACTS FLEXIBLE OR FRIVOLOUS? – ‘Analyse

the legal and / or moral implications of contractual terms at UBER.
Uber drivers won the right to be classed as workers rather than self-employed. With
zero-contract hours, instead of a salary, workers get paid for the 'gigs' they do, like a
food delivery or a taxi journey. In the UK its estimated that five million people are
employed as independent workers like this. That affects things like getting the
minimum wage and holiday pay.

3) UBER EXPANDS ITS REVENUE STREAMS BY ENTERING NEW MARKETS – ‘An

examination of the Uber Business model and it’s financial revenue streams’
As of 2019, Uber is estimated to have 110 million worldwide users a 69.0% market
share in the United States for passenger (taxi/minicabs) transport, and a 25% market
share for food delivery (Statista 2018). Uber has been so prominent in the sharing
economy that the changes in industries as a result of it have been referred to as
uberisation, and many start-ups have described their products as "Uber for X’

The task: To conduct a review of the relevant literature which reviews the secondary-desk
research relevant to your chosen topic. This will show your ability to identify the issues that
need to be researched. And your grasp of the methods which will draw out the data from which
you can draw your conclusions.

You should identify a range of relevant sources, such as published market research, academic
research and media comment and distinguish between these in terms of accuracy, reliability,
objectivity and authority. Your references should include at least one of each of - a book, a
report, an academic journal, a media report (newspaper, magazine, broadcast) and a properly
referenced company or organisation website.

At minimum of 10 academic sources are required to complete this assignment.
All sources must be fully referenced using the Harvard referencing system.

Students will be expected to abide by the stated word count and must include a word count.
Students with extenuating circumstances should speak to their college tutor in the first instance

Although your proposal specified primary research that could be suitable to this
research, you are not required to conduct any primary research.

Word count: 1800 (+/- 10%)

It is essential:
That each of the sections are covered (if not, there will be zero% for that section)
Show ability to describe theoretical concepts and then use examples as illustrations.
Do not make unsubstantiated assertions, references must back up your in-text
statements
Use Harvard Referencing throughout this report, linking theory to this practical
business example.
