COLOR PRINTING

____________________________________________________
1. CHOOSE THE APPROPRIATE PRINTER
If you are printing 17” in width or less, you will use a small/medium format printer:
Epson R3000 “B” 13”
Epson P800 “C” 17”
Epson P800 “D” 17”
If you are printing larger than 17”, you will use the large format printer:
Epson P8000 44”

2. CHOOSE THE APPROPRIATE PAPER + INK

For Luster or Glossy paper, you will use Photo Black ink
For Matte paper, you will use Matte Black ink
If there is a printer dedicated to Matte printing, please use that one
Otherwise your settings in photoshop will change the ink as needed

2. NOZZLE CHECK YOUR PRINTER

See nozzle check handout

3. PREPARE YOUR IMAGE

Make sure your screen brightness is 1-2 bars past the median line
Make sure all of your editing is complete
If you haven’t already, Open your image in Photoshop

To resize your image:
Select “Image” from the menu bar
Select “Image Size”
IMAGE SIZE
RESAMPLE: uncheck box

LOCK: Width, Height, and Resolution

MEASUREMENT: Set to Inches

HEIGHT OR WIDTH: Set the longest side ½” or 1”

less than the longest side of the photo paper

For example:
If you are printing on 8.5 x 11” paper, make the
longer side of your image 10.5”

NOTES
-The longest side of a vertical (portrait) photograph is the height
-The longest side of a horizonal (landscape) photograph is the width
-Your resolution (ppi) will change automatically according to the Width and Height
-Ideally, we want 360 ppi for printing, but aim to have at least 180 ppi
-It is best not to “up size” or force the resolution (ppi) to be more than it is
