The festival was first celebrated on June 29, 1987, firstly to showcase the

tattooed inhabitants of Samar and Leyte called Pintados.


THE PINTADOS FESTIVAL IS A

CULTURAL RELIGIOUS FESTIVAL

IN TACLOBAN IN VIEW OF THE

BODY-PAINTING CONVENTIONS

OF THE OLD INKED "PINTADOS"

WARRIORS.

IN 1986, THE PINTADOS

FOUNDATION, INC. WAS FRAMED

BY THE GENERAL POPULATION OF

TACLOBAN TO ARRANGE THIS

CELEBRATION OUT OF

APPRECIATION FOR SR. SANTO

NINO.

IN 1668, THE SPANIARDS


IN 1888, MISSIONARIES FROM
CAME TO VISAYAS AND
SPAIN BROUGHT THE CHILD JESUS
FOUND ISLANDS WITH

HEAVILY TATTOOED MEN


IMAGE KNOWN AS "EL CAPITAN" TO

AND WOMEN, WHOM THEY THE ISLAND. IT HAD A RICH AND

CALLED PINTADOS.
COLORFUL BACKGROUND THAT

BROUGHT OUT THE DEVOTION AND

WORSHIP OF THE LEYTE NATIVES

TO THE SANTO NINO.

IT WAS FOUNDED BY CIVIC- THEY BEGAN ORGANIZING RELIGIOUS

MINDED BUSINESSMEN AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES FOR THE CITY

ENTREPRENEURS BASED IN FIESTA AND MARKED THE ADVENT OF

TACLOBAN CITY. THE PINTADOS FESTIVAL.

FESTIVAL IN HONOR OF

STO. NINO

IT SHOWS HOW

FILIPINOS WANT TO BE

REMINDED TO BE

CHILDLIKE IN THEIR

WAYS AND TO PLACE

HOPE IN THEIR

CHILDREN.
THE CELEBRATION, FORMALLY

CALLED LEYTE PINTADOS-

KASADYAAN FESTIVAL AND

FURTHERMORE KNOWN AS THE

"CELEBRATION OF FESTIVALS," IS

HELD YEARLY ON JUNE 29, THE DAY

OF THE FEAST OF THE SENOR

SANTO NINO DE LEYTE.

THE MOST EXPECTED ASPECT OF THE PINTADOS FESTIVAL ARE THE

FESTIVE DANCERS, PAINTED FROM HEAD TO TOE WITH DESIGNS THAT

LOOK LIKE ARMOR TO RESEMBLE TATTOOED WARRIORS.


THE PINTADOS CELEBRATION

ENCOURAGES US TO SEE THE VALUE

AND EXCELLENCE OF THE CUSTOMS

OF THE NATION'S PREDECESSORS.

IT GIVES US THE CHANCE TO FEEL

AN UNCOMMON DIRECT AFFAIR, THE

EXPERIENCE OF CULTURE.
THE FESTIVAL HAS BEEN GAINING

POPULARITY BECAUSE OF THE

CONTINGENTS THEY SEND TO THE

ALIWAN FIESTA EVERY YEAR.

LEYTE IS ALSO THE HOME BASE OF

OTHER FESTIVALS LIKE ALIKARAW,

PASAKA AND THE 2009 ALIWAN

FIESTA CHAMPIONS, BUYOGAN.
