Family Pension Guidelines Wo 18 Amend
As per directions given in Para 8 Sub-Para 1of Finance Division’s OM No. 1(13)- Reg.6/83
dated 23rd October, 1983, family pension was granted at the rate of 50% of Gross Pension or
Net Pension as the case may be. Later on, it was started being granted at the rate of 75% of
Gross Pension or Net Pension as the case may be vide Finance Division’s OM No. No. F.2(3)-
Reg.6(2010-786 dated 5th July, 2010.
The pension so sanction is distributed according to point mentioned below after making
necessary amendments, vide various memos of FD referenced against each point, in Para 8
Sub-Para 2 and Clause (a) & (b) of Finance Division’s OM No. 1(13)- Reg.6/83 dated 23rd
October, 1983.
(i) Widow of the deceased for her life, if the Government Servant is a male servant. If
government servant has more than wife, and the number of surviving widows and children does
not exceed four, the pension will be divided among them equally. If the number surviving
widows and children exceeds four, then pension shall be divided as; each surviving widow will
get 1/4th of the pension and remaining will be divided equally among the surviving children. For
the purpose of this clause, children exclude sons above the age of 21 years.
(ii) Failing a widow or husband, as the case may be, to the eldest surviving son till he attains
the age of 21 years.
(iii) Failing (i) and (ii), to the eldest surviving unmarried daughter till her marriage. If the
eldest daughter marries or dies, to the next eldest daughter till her marriage. (Amended vide
Finance Division’s OM No. F.2(2)- Reg.6/96 dated 3rd July, 1997)
(iv) Failing (i) to (iii), to the widow daughter till for life or till her marriage. (Amended vide
Finance Division’s OM No. F.2(2)- Reg.6/96-IX-700 dated 7th July, 2015)
(v) Failing (i) to (iv), to the divorced daughter for life or till her marriage. (Added vide
Finance Division’s OM No. F.2(2)- Reg.6/96-IX-700 dated 7th July, 2015. Serial Numbers were
also directed to be amended accordingly)
(vi) Failing (i) to (v), the eldest widow of deceased son of the Government Servant for 10
years or unexpired portion of 10 years.
(vii) Failing (i) to (vi), to the eldest surviving son of below the age of 21 years of a deceased
son of the Government Servant for 10 years or unexpired portion of 10 years.
(viii) Failing (i) to (vii), to the eldest surviving unmarried daughter below 21 years of age of a
deceased son of the Government Servant for 10 years or unexpired portion of 10 years.
(ix) Failing these, to the eldest widow daughter of a deceased son of the Government Servant
for 10 years of unexpired portion of 10 years.
In the event where no pension is payable as mentioned above, the family pension is granted as
follows after making necessary amendments vide various memos of FD to Para 8, Sub-Para 2
Clause (b) of Finance Division’s OM No. 1(13)- Reg.6/83 dated 23rd October, 1983
(i) To the father for life (Amended vide FD’s OM No. 2(2)-Reg.6/96 dated 21st August,
1996).
(ii) Failing the father, to the mother for life (Amended vide FD’s OM No. 2(2)-Reg.6/96
dated 21st August, 1996).
(iii) Failing the father and mother, to the eldest surviving brother below the age of 21 years.
(iv) Failing (i) to (iii), to the eldest surviving unmarried sister for life or till her marriage; if
the eldest sister marries or dies, then the next eldest sister for life or till her marriage.

(v) Failing (i) to (iv), to the eldest surviving widow sister for a period of 10 years or
unexpired portion of 10 years.
(i) To a person mentioned in clause (b) of sub-para (2) of para 8 without production of a
reasonable proof that such person was dependent on the deceased Government Servant
for support
(ii) To an un-married female member of a Government Servant’s family in the event of her
marriage.
(iii) To a widowed female member of a Government Servant’s family in the event of her re-
marriage.
(iv) To the brother of a Government Servant on his attaining the age of 21 years
(v) To a person who is not a member of a Government Servant’s family
