How to make an Book Cover on CorelDraw

Elements of Book Cover: Book Cover is divided into 3 parts: Front, Spine and
back.

1. Front
 Title of the book
 Author of the book
 Publisher’s Name
 Publisher’s Logo
 ISBN No. (Optional)
 Edition (Optional)
 Suitable Picture/Image/Collage
 Suitable Background (Picture/Image/Collage/Solid
Colour/Gradient/Fountain Fill/Pattern Fill or any other)
2. Spine
 Title of the book
 Author of the book
 Publisher’s Logo

3. Back
 Title of the book
 Passport Photo of the Author
 About the Author
 About the book
 Publisher’s Name
 Publisher’s Logo
 Publisher’s Address, Contact Details (Address; Phone/Mobile No,
Email-ID, Facebook, Twitter or any other ID)
 ISBN No.
 Price in Rs.
 Bar Code/QR Code
 Edition (Optional)
 Suitable Background colour in plain according to the front of the
book
Size: A4 Legal (8.5x14”)

Margins: .4” from top; bottom, left, right in front and back + .4” from top;
bottom and .2” from left, right in spine

Procedure:

1. Open Corel by pressing windows+R and typing coreldrw


2. Open New File
3. Take Size A4 Legal (8.5x14”)
4. Make a box of page size by double clicking on rectangle box tool in the
left tool box.
5. Dividing the page into three parts of 6.5” of back and front in left and
right and spine of 1 inch in middle
6. Take pick tool and press + from the numeric key pad; locking the lock
with the height and width tool box

The spine will be formed and will be at the centre of the page. Select the
spine Take pick tool and press + from the numeric key pad making the
width 6.5”. The Left side back/front will be made Align this box to the
left and top of the page. Take pick tool and press + from the numeric
key pad; select the box and Align this box to the right and top of the
page.
7. Take and Mark margins of .4” from each side (top; bottom; left; right) in
the front and back page. and .4” from top; bottom and .2” from left, right
in spine
8. Saving the file by pressing ctrl+s with .cdr file extension.
9. Type the required text by pressing F8 key (you will get a cursor by
clicking on the page).
10. Format and align the text (Size, Color, fontstyle, font)
11. Putting a suitable background (picture, solid color or gradient).
12. Importing (ctrl+I) picture/images and putting them on the required
place.
13. For Barcode go to edit menu and then press insert barcode; a barcode
dialogue box will be opened. Putting all the values of the book’s ISBN
no and Price in Rs. (in figures) and then clicking next and finish a
barcode will appear.
14. If all the things are arranged and book cover is ready then save the file
by pressing ctrl+S.
15. Export the file by ctrl+E in the required format (jpg, png or other
format).
16. It can also be exported as pdf by clicking file menu and then clicking on
export as pdf.
