Along with my academics, I was an active student among others during my undergraduate

studies, very often involved in many curricular and extra-curricular activities. Through these
engagements I was able to develop and effectively demonstrate my communication, leadership
and teamworking skills in a diverse environment. I was my class representative for a consecutive
of four years acting as my class representative in different student forums. I represented the
views of my on academic matters to the lecturers, department and College. I was responsible for
ensuring that all my classmates were properly informed about teachers’ and academic leaders’
messages. It was also my task to inform students about important test schedules, seminar days,
and academic events. I also represented my class in the university’s Student Parliament for one
academic year working to fill the gap between students and administrators.
In my university years, I also volunteered for the university’s free tutorial center as coordinator
and lecturer for engineering drawing course. In this role I mentored fresh man students for three
and a half years in their drawing courses. This role helped me gain new experiences and skills by
interacting with students who are from different backgrounds. I have received recognition and
respect of students and staff members for my contribution.
After graduation, I am currently participating voluntarily in Mary Joy Development Association
Ethiopia. In this community service organization, I am one of the three persons responsible for
the social media advertisement of the organization. I am responsible for posting the
organization’s works and upcoming events to create awareness to the mass community. To help
me in my responsibility I have completed a 40 hours digital skills training by Google. Even
though the training focusses on marketing and business, I am using most of the basic
advertisement skills I have gained through the training to effectively complete my tasks in my
role.
Overall, the Chevening scholarships will help me further develop my leadership skill increasing
my ability to be effective in my future endeavors.
