WHAT IS TOGAF®?
The Open Group Architecture Framework or TOGAF® is an Enterprise Architecture
framework which helps in designing, planning and implementing the information
security architecture of an enterprise. The main idea is to present a structured and
controlled approach for organizations planning to organize and govern their
implementation of technology, especially software technology.
HISTORY OF
TOGAF®
TOGAF® was developed by the Open Group in the early 1990s by as a methodology for
development of technological architecture. TOGAF® 1.0 was the first version of TOGAF® and was
presented in 1995. It was based on the US Department of Defense’s Technical Architecture
Framework for Information Management or TAFIM. Following this, successive versions of
TOGAF® were developed and published by the Open Group at regular intervals.
The popular Technical Version or TOGAF® 7 was presented in December 2001. And exactly after
one year the Enterprise Edition or TOGAF® 8 was presented in December 2002. It was followed
by a series of improvements to version 8.1 in 2003 and version 8.1.1 in 2006. The latest version or
TOGAF® 9 was launched in December, 2011 with many marked improvements.
