This document outlines a 10 point Covid-19 research assignment for biology students. It includes 3 components: research of at least 3 credible sources; a creative presentation using a method like a video, slideshow, or model; and answering questions about the virus origins, physiology, symptoms, treatments, and societal impacts. Covid-19 Pandemic 10 Point Assignment

The world is currently battling the Covid-19 pandemic and the effects of this crisis
have reached our community. You and your classmates have undoubtedly experienced
the health, social, and economic impacts that go far beyond the closure of school. One
of the most important things that we can do is to become educated about the virus so
that as individuals we can have a positive impact on the situation through informed
decision making (i.e. toilet paper hoarding).

You will complete a research project on Covid-19 (Coronavirus). This assignment will
have three components: research; presentation; and visual model.

1. Research – Students will identify and cite at least 3 credible sources.

2. Presentation – Be creative! You can choose whichever method of presentation
you prefer: make a video; build a slide show, Prezi, or Infographic; write a
narrative; or create an audio presentation. (You should not be writing a research
paper.)
3. Virus Model – Make a visual representation of the Coronavirus. Again, you can
get creative: bake a cake to look like the virus; create a stop motion video;
practice your origami; or dress up a family member or pet.

In your research assignment you will answer, but are not limited to the following
questions:
- What is Covid-19?
- Where did Covid-19 originate?
- What are the viral factors?
- What physiologically occurs after infection?
- What are the symptoms associated with Covid-19?
- What treatments are being identified and used?
- How is the virus affecting society?
- What steps are being taken to prevent the spread of the virus and how are you
involved?

As Biology students, you have the background information needed to understand

the impacts of Covid-19 on all levels of life. The units we have covered this year
include: The Chemistry of Life (How do the structures of organisms enable life’s
functions), Ecosystems (How do earth's living and nonliving parts interact and affect the
survival of organisms), and Heredity (Biological information is passed from one
generation to the next at all levels of life). Like a microscope’s objectives, these unit
topics should be used as lenses for you to view the virus and the pandemic through.
Organize your thoughts and understanding of the impacts of Covid-19 as they relate to
these topics.
