Chapter 1
Product Description
EMC Documentum Content Server Enterprise Edition is the core of the EMC Documentum content
management platform. Content Server governs the content repository and enables a set of content
management services for controlling content and processes throughout distributed enterprises.
Content Server lets you store, manage, and deploy all types of content, including HTML and XML,
graphics, and multimedia. Content Server provides services such as the following:
• Integrated workflow
• Lifecycle and process automation
• Version control
• Security
• Data dictionary for capturing and configuring business rules
Content Server is a 32-bit application that can run on 32–bit or 64–bit operating systems as long as
that operating system supports 32–bit applications. You do not need to manually set a compatibility
mode. The 64–bit operating system automatically manages Content Server as a 32–bit application.
With Content Server, users can share and reuse trusted content on demand within and between
business units. Administrators can define, organize, automate, and monitor all the functions and
tasks of complex business processes. The 6.6 release adds to these capabilities. Chapter 2, New
Features and Changes contains a listing of all new features.

Chapter 2
New Features and Changes
Content Server includes several new features and improvements. This section describes the major
enhancements. Refer to the product documentation for complete information about these features.
Kerberos support
Content Server 6.6 supports Kerberos authentication, which provides a secure single-sign-on (SSO)
solution using Windows Integrated Authentication. Content Server supports Kerberos using the
Microsoft Active Server Domain Services for Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC) services.
Documentum Foundation Services (DFS) provide a client interface to Kerberos that is compliant
with the Kerberos Token Profile 1.1 specification. The DFS SDK includes client libraries to support
Kerberos integration for local and remote Java clients, and for .NET clients.
For more details regarding Kerberos, see the EMC Documentum Foundation Classes documentation and
the EMC Documentum Administrator User Guide.

Chapter 4
Environment and System
Requirements
This chapter lists the hardware (machine) requirements and software versions supported with this
release. Machine resources, non-Documentum software components (Operating System, Java
Runtime Environment, and so forth), and other EMC Documentum products determine the unique
environment for each EMC Documentum product. Hardware requirements, page 27, addresses basic
machine resource requirements. Software requirements, page 28, addresses specific software versions
that are required for the installation platform.
Content Server operates on a single environment, with a second server used to manage full-text
indexing.
Documentum Messaging Services (DMS) is a low-maintenance application that operates on a web
application server included with the DMS installer.
Hardware requirements
This section lists nominal machine resources required for product installation and use. Your
individual machine requirements vary depending on factors such as the number of products
installed, size of your deployment, number of users, and network latency. The Documentum System
Sizing Tool dynamically generates estimates of your hardware resource requirements based on your
user and hardware profile.
You can download the Documentum System Sizing Tool from the Powerlink website
(http://powerlink.emc.com) by navigating to: Home > Support > Technical Documentation and
Advisories > Software ~ D ~ Documentation > Documentum System > Systems Sizing.

4 GB for the index server). For best performance, we recommend that you run the index server
and Content Server on separate host machines.
Note: The following notes apply to the Content Server machine requirements table:
[1] The amount of RAM that is available after taking into consideration all other RAM utilization
requirements.
[2] If you are installing Content Server on a UNIX or Linux system, 1 GB of space are required
in the /var/tmp directory. If you use a temp directory that shares the same disk partition as the
installation destination, you must add additional 1 GB to the disk requirement for the installation
destination.
[3] For better performance and if there is also a global repository housed on the same host, along
with other Documentum services deployed on that machine (such as CIS or IDS).
Note: The following notes apply to the index server machine requirements table:
[1] The amount of RAM that is available after taking into consideration all other RAM utilization
requirements.
Software requirements
This section provides information on supported software environments.
28 EMC Documentum Content Server Enterprise Edition Release Notes, Version 6.6
Environment and System Requirements
The tables in this section reflect the latest versions of third-party products, upon which the EMC
Documentum product depends, that are supported at the time of this release. EMC Documentum
recommends that you upgrade third-party products to the version listed for this release. If you
cannot upgrade your third-party products to the version listed for this release, EMC Documentum
continues to support all third-party product versions supported for EMC Documentum product
versions 6.x and 5.3x, with the following caveats:
• the third-party product is not of the same or earlier version than those versions listed in Table
4, page 29
• the third-party product version is still supported by the third-party vendor
• the third-party product version is forward compatible with the version supported in this release.
For information on currently supported environments and future updates, refer to the Product
Information System on the Powerlink website: http://powerlink.emc.com.

To resolve this issue, you need to make manual changes to the dm_server_config by using
either Documentum Administrator, interactive application programming interface (IAPI), or
interactive Documentum Query Language (IDQL). Change the dm_server_config app_server_uri
attribute to reflect the changes. In the example above, you need to change app_server_uri[2]:
http://localhost:9080/custom/a/bservlet to app_server_uri[2]: http://localhost:20000/custom/a/bservlet.

Note: You must examine the database to find the index name to use in the second form. It takes the
format "d_1f...", and the index name must be in all lowercase.
The syntax for the MAKE_INDEX command is:
• apply,c,NULL,MAKE_INDEX,TYPE_NAME,S,<name>,[ATTRIBUTE,S,<name>],
USE_ID_COL,B,<value>,UNIQUE,B,<value>,RESERVED_ID,I,<id>,ID_IN_FRONT,B,<value>
Note: RESERVED_ID should be the value added to LONG_MIN, not the actual value that is used
for the ID.
The following is a listing of the indexes you need to drop and then make. The list includes the
type and attributes of the index, and the commands needed to drop and then make the index.

EMC Documentum Content Server Enterprise Edition Release Notes, Version 6.6 61
Known Problems and Limitations
If this query returns a nonzero value, the repository cannot upgrade properly.
• In SQL, run the following update:
update dm_group_s set is_dynamic=0 where is_dynamic is null
If you upgraded and your repository has this issue, correct the problem by doing the following:
• Run the following query to return any static groups that are members of a dynamic group:
select r_object_id, group_name from dm_group_s gs1 where
(gs1.is_dynamic=0 or gs1.is_dynamic is null) and exists
(select gs2.r_object_id from dm_group_s gs2, dm_group_r gr1
where gs2.is_dynamic=1 and gs2.group_name=gr1.i_supergroups_names
and gr1.r_object_id=gs1.r_object_id)
• If the query returns no rows, the following update statement can repair the repository:
update dm_group_r set i_nondyn_supergroups_names = i_supergroups_names
where i_supergroups_names is not null and r_object_id in
(select r_object_id from dm_group_s gs1 where
(gs1.is_dynamic = 0 or gs1.is_dynamic is null))
• If the query returns rows, correct the groups identified by the query individually with the help
from EMC Technical Support. For the groups you can directly update, run the following SQL
statement:
update dm_group_r set i_nondyn_supergroups_names = i_supergroups_names
where i_supergroups_names is not null and r_object_id in

The Documentum eContent server notification and event sender does not support multibyte

support multibyte characters. In order to support multibyte languages, the dm_event_sender script
has to be rewritten in Java.
This fix adds an "exectrace" flag that you can turn on to print out command line and arguments of
every forked and executable process from Content Server.
The problem occurs when two users are operating on the same workflow task. The users are members
of same group that is the performer of a workflow task. After the user gets the error, they are not able
to recover until they logout and login. This fix resolves the issue.
The attribute "i_retain_until" shows users the retention period of documents in the object list. Users
use this information to prevent the deletion of the document by versioning early enough.

The Environments and System Requirements chapter provides details about the required service
pack levels.
When upgrading from Content Server 5.3 to Content Server 6, you do not have the option of
upgrading these database versions separately from Content Server. Upgrade both components at
the same time, without returning to production in the interim.
Note: Content Server, version 5.3 SP4 and later does support SQL Server 2005 in addition to SQL
Server 2000. If you are running Content Server 5.3 SP4 or later, you have the option to upgrade to
SQL Server 2005 separately from the Content Server upgrade.
68 EMC Documentum Content Server Enterprise Edition Release Notes, Version 6.6
Known Problems and Limitations
For example: A date field set to the value 1/1/2009 8:00 a.m. EST on a version 5.x client application
in New York is stored as 1/1/2009 8:00 a.m. PST on a version 5.x Content Server in San Francisco
and would appear as 1/1/2009 8:00 a.m. EST when fetched by the version 5.x client application in
New York.
After an upgrade, the same date field, when fetched by a version 6 client application in New York,
appears as 11:00 a.m. EST and as 4:00 p.m. GMT by a version 6 client application in London.
The following table summarizes the date semantics.
Client Content Server Date set in New Date stored in San Date fetched in
version version York Francisco London
5.x 5.x 1/1/2009 8:00 a.m. 1/1/2009 8:00 a.m. 1/1/2009 8:00 a.m.
6.0 6.0 1/1/2009 8:00 a.m. 1/1/2009 5:00 a.m. 1/1/2009 1:00 p.m.
EST PST GMT
5.x to set 6.0 Set: 1/1/2009 8:00 1/1/2009 5:00 a.m. 1/1/2009 4:00 p.m.
a.m. EST PST GMT
6.0 to fetch
Fetched: 1/1/2009
11:00 a.m. EST
Note: If client applications running on application servers are on different time zones than the
Content Server to which they are connected, these client applications must be at the same version, for
example, all on 5.3.x or all on 6. A mixed environment is not supported. The following paragraphs
explain what happens when you have a mixed environment.
Depending on the version of the client applications, different date semantics are used. Version
5.x client applications continue to use old version 5.x date semantics, even when connected to a
version 6 repository. Version 6 client applications use the new date semantics when connected to a
version 6 repository. Version 6 client applications connected to a version 5.x repository use the old
version 5.x date semantics.
Version 5.x client applications that fetch dates set by a version 6 client application always see that
date relative to the Content Server’s time zone. Version 6 client applications that fetch dates set by a
version 5.x client application always see that date adjusted forward or backward, depending on the
difference in locales between the client application and Content Server.
For example:
• A date field set to the value 1/1/2009 8:00 a.m. of a version 5.x client application in New York
would be stored as 1/1/2009 8:00 a.m. on a version 6 Content Server in San Francisco and would
appear as 1/1/2009 11:00 a.m. when fetched by a version 6 client application in New York.
• A date field set to the value 1/1/2009 8:00 a.m. on a version 6 client application in New York would
be stored as 1/1/2009 5:00 a.m. on a version 6 Content Server in San Francisco and would appear
as 1/1/2009 5:00 a.m. when fetched by a version 5.x client application in New York.
Note: In environments where the client application and Content Server reside in the same time zone,
the semantics between version 5.x and 6 appear to be the same.

Keystores
In general, copying a keystore from one host to another does not work by design. You cannot copy,
swap, or share keystores. They are sensitive security information.
If the client is not running on the Content Server host, you can change the keystore: Stop the client,
delete the keystore, and restart the client. On restart, the client creates a keystore, but all privileges
associated with the deleted keystore are lost.

dm_fulltext_index_user login ticket passed to the index agent was created before the value specified
in the login_ticket_cutoff. This situation happens when the index agent is started before the data
value in the login_ticket_cutoff attribute.
This behavior is expected of the login_ticket_cutoff attribute. However, it causes the index agent
to stop indexing objects because it cannot proceed with user authentication error messages being
logged. To work around this issue, restart the index agent through the FTINDEX_AGENT_ADMIN
apply method. This procedure establishes a new login ticket to pass to the index agent that does not
conflict with the value set in the login_ticket_cutoff attribute.

DB2 requirements
To support audit trail functionality, DB2 requires 8K page capability. During the installation of
version 6.5, the installation program automatically creates 8K pages. To determine whether you have
8K temporary tablespace before an installation or upgrade, run the following command:
db2 LIST TABLESPACES SHOW DETAIL
If the page size parameter is 4096, you have 4K page size. If the page size parameter is 8192, you
have 8K page size.
db2 CREATE TEMPORARY TABLESPACE TEMPSPACE2 PAGESIZE = 8192
You can create the database and set the parameters from the DB2 command line or from the Control
Center. Use the Control Center to run the performance wizard. You can run the Control Center
on AIX, or you can run performance wizard from a Windows system to tune performance for the
instance on AIX.
Use the following guidelines to prepare for the creation of a DB2 database.
• Before you create a database for use by Content Server, unset the DB2CODEPAGE environment
variable from the command line: db2set DB2CODEPAGE =
• If you install DB2 on the same host as the Content Server, the clients are installed automatically.
• If you install DB2 on a different host from the Content Server, manually install the DB2 clients
on the Content Server host.
82 EMC Documentum Content Server Enterprise Edition Release Notes, Version 6.6
Technical Notes
You can configure a DB2 database by using one of the following methods:
• Configure DB2 from the Control Center
• Configure DB2 from the command line
Optionally, you can use the performance wizard to fine-tune DB2 performance after installing and
configuring the database. You can use the performance wizard at a later time, but if you do so, ensure
that the parameter values required by Content Server are not changed.
Use the following procedure to configure a DB2 database from the Control Center:
EMC Documentum Content Server Enterprise Edition Release Notes, Version 6.6 83

If the repository and the DB2 server are on the same machine and you are configuring DB2
Enterprise Edition, set buffpagesize to 40% of the available physical memory divided by the
page size of your tablespace.
If the repository and the DB2 server are on the same machine and you are configuring DB2
Workgroup Edition, set buffpagesize to 20% of the available physical memory divided by the
page size of your tablespace.
If the repository and the DB2 server are on different machines, set buffpagesize to 80% of the
available physical memory divided by the page size of your tablespace.
Note: If you are running more than one repository and database on the same DB2 server, the
percentage recommended for buffer pool is for the sum of all databases. In all cases, ensure that
the buffer page size is a minimum of 6000.
8. If you see the SQL1482W error message "The BUFFPAGE parameter will only be used if one of
the buffer pools is defined with a size of -1,” change the buffer pool size:
ALTER BUFFERPOOL buffpoolname SIZE -1
10. If DB2 is installed remotely, use the DB2 Client Configuration Assistant after database creation to
add the database alias to the list of available databases.

• Looks for and removes self-linked folders and attaches the orphaned folders to the /Temp cabinet
• Issues warnings about folder paths that exceed the field width
Folders are fixed by recalculating r_folder_path and i_ancestor_id values from the parent folders.
For each folder, the script calculates what the r_folder_path and i_ancestor_id values should be and
compares them against the current copies in the repository. If there are discrepancies, the folder
is rebuilt (unless the script runs in report mode only). Because fixing a folder depends on the
correctness of its parents, the script runs several passes through the repository. Each pass fixes
only folders whose parents have already been fixed. For example, the first pass fixes only cabinets,
subsequent passes fix subfolders, and so on
The script uses a temporary table called "dm_fix_fold_tab" to keep track of folders that are being
fixed during the execution of the script. Because of this, you cannot run the script concurrently, not
even against separate folder paths.
For performance reasons, folders are held in the cache while being used, and they are not re-fetched
each time they are accessed. Therefore, if folders are being changed by users while this script is
running, version mismatch errors can occur.
Note: The following restriction applies to using the WithFolder option to the fix or report modes:
The WithFolder option relies on the i_ancestor_id field to determine which items are underneath the
specified folder. If a corrupted folder exists under the requested path but is corrupted in such a way
that it does not contain the i_ancestor_id, running the script will not fix the folder.
You can fix the folder by running the script with its specific folder ID. Examine the orphaned folders
(reattached to /Temp by this script) and, if required, save or remove them.
Note: The script cannot fix the r_folder_path truncations; it can only report them. Any folder paths
over the limit are truncated by the server.
