Tools and Equipment Wrenches, Torque Wrench Other require tools & equipment for bot tightening 5, Handling of Bolts, Nuts & Washers When handling of bolts for transporting, storing or for ather purpose precautions shall be taken, so thst the threads will not be damaged. The bolts shall be kept free from dust and other foreign matter and from rusting, For bolt sets with class a torque factor and spactal bolts special precaution shall be taken so as not to impair the characteristics ofthe treatment applied to the nut and washer surfaces. 6. Botting Application 6.1. Boing mater be thoroughly checked to ensure that the correct bolt types and sizes with manufacturers’ stamp are being utilized. 6.2. Crane with man basket will be used for bolting & tightening purpose. But mar-ift can also be used up to 18t0 20 MIRS for bolting & tightening purpose if practically possible. 6.3. ASTM A490/A490M and galvanized ASTM A32S/A325M bolts shall not be reused. 6.4, Bolting connections shall mect the requirements of NCP-00-AO-GS-057-R2. 65. The bottom face ofthe structural steel base plate shall be visually examined for cleanliness. 6.6. Prior to erection, surfaces of structural steel, which contact each other In high strength bolted connections, shall be cleaned of any loose mill sale, dust, ol, paint lacquer or other coating except galvanizing. 5.7. Anchar bolts shall be fully tightened to the specified tension only after the grouting of base plate. Prior to full tightening of any bolts, there shall be enough bolts brought to a srug-tight condition to ensure that the joint surfaces are in good contact. Pretension Methods are turm-of-nut, calibrated wrench method, twist-ofttype tension control bolt & direct tension indicstor. Definition of above methods is as given below Snug Tightoned Joints:-The Snug tightened contin Is the tightness thet i attained with 2 few impact ofan impact wrench or full effort of ironworker using an ordary spud wrench to bring the connected ples into firm contact (AISC Section 8.2).
