LEADERSHIP ASSIGNMENT ONE (1)

NAME: ALEXANDER JERRY TAYLOR

ID NUMBER: 220015759

There are so many types of management or leadership styles to choose from. Sometimes, that

can feel daunting and a bit overwhelming, which dealing with a company or a department.

There is no more one-size-fits-all model that traditional organizations once forced. Now, you

can be creative and have the freedom to try new things in the modern workplace, especially

in the manufacturing industry.

Being a good manager and a great leader in modern business and workplaces means getting

the right information and making the most of it for you and your team. The best managers

know that it’s about the people, not the systems and theories. They know when to bend the

rules a bit and adapt to different needs.

The key is to choose management styles and structures that suit your team, your industry, and

your goals. While teams go through natural phases of “growing pains,” it’s not always

directly caused by your management style. By observing how each different leadership style

affects the group, learn to adjust according to their needs.

The following management styles can be used to best suit your strengths and best practices,

as well as help you acknowledge the diversity of each approach with your team and company.

It’s

Democratic leaders are great at listening and collaborating with their team members to create

a space for ideas of the best possible products and services. These managers work together
with everyone on the team to find a consensus on important manufacturing decisions. Time to

experiment!

The mentality that “every voice is heard” can help leaders get the most information and

feedback needed to increase output and efficiency within the business. Businesses in a

developing country such Ghana’s manufacturing companies can go bust if their stakeholders

and employees cannot come to a consensus. Use a democratic management style in situations

where brainstorming and debate are encouraging and in most cases needed.

Question 2
How can leaders create a climate of trust and facilitate relationships among people in a work
team?
Trust is a major player if a team is supposed to work together efficiently, to accomplish

mutual goals, to maintain healthy morale and harmonious work environment. When there is

trust, the leader delegate authority, allows vulnerability amongst the team also a sense of

purpose and belonging.

With regards to building trust within the organization, a leader must inspire and facilitate the

following:

The leader must be Patience. A leader must patiently train his/her employees and understand

the pain points of the employees. He must also devise ways to help them to perform more

efficiently.

The leader must have a knowledge on the subject matter. A leader must completely

understand the task at hand and then distribute the work to his/her team basis the

competencies of the team members.

The leader must also be Transparent. Transparency in allocation of work, communication to

the employees and ethical behaviour are certain key attributes that help the team to work

together.

The leader must also be Open. Leaders must cherish and welcome both positive and negative

feedback from the employees. The environment of the work place should make them feel

secure while sharing their thoughts.

The leader must accept mutual feedback: Feedback often helps everyone in the team: It helps

people to understand about the areas of improvement and also motivates them to keep doing

the good work.

The final way to build trust is ongoing team exercises. Team exercises are a better way to

instigate camaraderie in the team. It helps built trust and also allows people to know each

other well.

To conclude on this, leaders must try to device a culture and build a team wherein the above

mentioned ways are incorporated in the system and are followed in the same way as the

company policies. There is no shortcut to build trust in the team and it requires time for the

employees to become familiar with the team members and the expectations of the

management.

On the issue on the leader’s trustworthiness: It is mostly said that employees do not leave

their companies they leave their bosses. No one wants to work for a person who is not

reliable and ethical in his ways of conducting business. Hence, personal integrity becomes an

important factor for employees to trust his/her boss. Also, a leader should exhibit

competencies to complete a job. Employees do not like to follow a leader who just deals in

words and does nothing to walk the talk.

The leader can demonstrate he or she trusts in the following ways:

A good leader must delegate authority and assign work to the employees depending on their

competencies. After this, he should give space and have patience for them to come back with

the completed task. During this period, he or she can overview the completeness of the work

and keep the employees focused and inspired. Leaders can take follow-ups from time to time

so that there is no deviation from the timeline. A sense of ownership must be infused amongst

the employees and this can be achieved only if the leadership trusts the team.
