WWF Final Report
WWF Final Report
The World Wildlife Fund began in April, 1961 in Switzerland. It was started by a group of
scientists and environmentalists in the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural
Resources (IUCN), one of the few conservation centres at the time. Some key note biologists who helped
make WWF were Sir Julian Huxley, an African Wildlife enthusiast, and IUCN vice president Sir Peter
Scott. It started off as a vision to be an international fund that would raise funds along side other
conservation centres for the protection of animals around the world. In 1961, WWF Inc was created
which was the foundation in the United States. After that, many other countries joined this organization’s
cause. Today, there is 100 countries with a total of 2.5 million members globally that help protect the
future of nature by supporting WWF.
World Wildlife Fund’s mission is to stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and
to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature. In short WWF is trying to protect future of
nature. The way this can be done is through conserving the world’s biological diversity, ensuring that the
use of renewable natural resources is sustainable, and promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful
consumption. According to their goals they are hoping that by 2020 WWF will conserve 19 of the world's
most important natural places and symbolically change their global markets to protect the future of
environment. Nonetheless WWF is required to deal with issues at work as well. They focus their work
around the magnificent diversity of life on this planet, the extraordinary places they live in, yet WWF
tries to reduce humanity’s impact on this life and these places. Currently they are focusing their efforts on
a selected group of priority species that are especially important, either for their ecosystem or for people.
This organization gets its funding from many different sources. Fundraising is well off but it
doesn’t provide everything WWF needs. Members who join and donors have given an estimated 85.5
million dollars. Also, many governments award the organization for its work in countries such as Africa
and the Amazon. Corporations also give donations with a total high of $10.5 million. This organization
needs to have the funding it gets to run all the operations in various countries, pay their employees and
most of all, create and implement projects to protect the animals and nature of the world.
WWF is very well-known non-government organization which is involved with many business
and industry partners. WWF helps companies change the way they do business. According to WWF three
of the most important guiding principles for our corporate engagement are partnership of equals,
transparency and mutual right to disagree. The way WWF is involved with business is by campaigning
and lobbying, promoting market change, improving environmental performance and delivering
conservation benefits, generating support for conservation work, promoting environmental awareness.
WWF cooperates with many partners, including UN (United Nations) organizations, IUCN (International
Union for Conservation of Nature), and development agencies such as USAID (U.S. Agency for
International Development) and the World Bank. Along with these partners WWF tries to save
biodiversity and reduce humanity’s impact on natural habitats. Some of the companies involved in these
partnerships include Coca-Cola, HP, IKEA, Nokia, and Ogilvy. In addition WWF takes an innovative,
collective, science-based approach to achieve its goals of saving biodiversity and reducing humanity's
impact on nature. Currently WWF has invested over $1,300 million (US) in more than 11,000 projects in
more than 100 countries.
