1. A shop keeper earned Rs.504 in 12 days. His average income for the first four days was Rs.40 a day. Find his
average income for the remaining days.
Ans - Let the avg for remaining 8 days be Rs. y a day.
Then, ( 4 x 40 ) + 8y = 504
= 8y = 344
= y = 43
2. The average age of 24 students in a class is 10. If the teacher's age is including, the average increases by one. What is
the age of the teacher ?
Ans - (240+x)÷25 = 11
240+x= 25×11
240+x= 275
x=275–240
x=35.
3. The average expenditure of a man for the first five months is Rs.120 and for the next seven months it is Rs.130. If he
saves Rs.290 in that year, find his monthly average income.
=Rs. 1800
=1800 / 12
=150 Rs
4. The average weight of a class of 40 students is 40 kg. If the weight of the teacher is included, the average weight
increases by 500 gms. Find the weight of the teacher.
Total weight of 40 students =40×40=1600 kg
5. The average weight of 8 men is increased by 2 kg when one of the men, whose weight is 50 kg is replaced by a new
man. What is the weight of the new man joined?
x=50-2
=48
6. The average age of an adult class is 40 years. 12 new students with an average of 32 years join the class, thereby
decreasing the average by 4 years. Find the original strength of the class.
Ans - the original strength of class is x, which means there were x number of students in the class.
= {(40x) + 384}/(x+12) = 36
= 4x = 48
x = 12
7. The average of 6 observations is 12. A new seventh observation is included and the new average is decreased by 1.
What is seventh observation?
= 7×(12−1)=777×(12−1)=77
9. The average of marks obtained by 120 candidates was 35. If the average of marks of passed candidates was 39 and that
of failed candidates was 15, find the number of candidates who passed the examination.
10. The average salary of 20 workers in an office is Rs.1900 per month. If the manager's salary is added, the average salary
becomes Rs.2000 p.m. What is the manager's annual salary?
