1.0 PURPOSE:
The intent of this document is to describe the HVAC control system provided by Zamil controls as per
scope of work
2.0 SCOPE
The scope covers HVAC control panels supplied by Zamil as defined in the scope of work.
HVAC control system controls the HVAC equipment in order to implement the desired sequence of operation
to maintain the desired favorable conditions confirming the best efficient utilization of both energy & HVAC
equipment taking into consideration all safety interlocks & giving the operator the ability to monitor & control
system parameters.
The process of controlling HVAC system involves three steps. These steps include first measuring data, then
processing the data with other information and finally causing a control action.
The sensor measures the controlled medium or other control input in an accurate and repeatable manner.
Common HVAC sensors are used to measure temperature, pressure, relative humidity (will be presented in
more details through the document), additional input information (sensed data) that influences the control
logic may include the status of other parameters (airflow, Run, fault…) or safety (fire, smoke, high/low
temperature limit or any number of other physical parameters).

The controller processes data that is input from the sensor, applies the logic of control and causes an output
action to be generated. This signal may be sent directly to the controlled device or to other logical control
functions and ultimately to the controlled device. The controllers function is to compare its input (from the
sensor) with a set of instructions such as set point or safety interlock, then produce an appropriate output
signal.
The controlled device responds to the signal from the controller, or the control logic, and changes the
condition of the controlled medium or the state of the end device. These devices may include damper
actuators, relays, fans, compressors.
Our Proposed HVAC control system consists of DDC based HVAC Control Panel & field devices which
together provide control & management of the entire HVAC installation in order to fulfill the desired condition
in the most efficient manner providing all necessary safety interlocks.
The HVAC control panel are intended for indoor use in non-hazardous location inside air-conditioned building
with a degree of protection of IP41 (NEMA Type I)

4.1.1-DDC CONTROLLER:
For the DDC controller we are using Siemens DESIGO PXC Automation Station, which meets all the
requirements associated with the control and monitoring of heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems and
other building services.
PXC are used for many reasons where the most striking features of DESIGO PX are the scalability of the
system with its programmable automation stations and graded range of operator units, and the system's
openness.
With its modular design, DESIGO PX can be adapted to specific requirements and needs, making cost-
effective DDC technology a possibility even in small HVAC systems. Investment costs are limited to those
system components that are actually needed. This innovative approach allows phased expansion of DESIGO
PX into a building automation and control system as and when required.
In addition, the use of BACnet /LonTalk or BACnet/IP underlines the openness of our systems and our
utilization of the latest communications technologies. BACnet opens up the system, to allow easy integration
of systems and components from third-party manufacturers.
On the other hand, the automation station also incorporates convenient integrated management functions
such as:
Alarm Management:
With three types of alarm, Simple, Basic, & Extended, identified with date & time accompanied by vital
information in text form which is automatically added to the alarm message so the technical staff can see exactly
where the alarm originated – in which plant, which aggregate and which component. Which is an important
factor for the efficient operation of plant. Which ensures early identification of problems in the plant and initiates
automatic strategies to help prevent any resulting damage.
Time schedules:
The time control of procedures and processes is one of the daily basic functions of a building automation and
control system. Ventilation, heating, air conditioning, lighting, door locks etc., are controlled on the basis of
opening times and working hours in buildings such as offices, banks, restaurants, department stores and
schools. Scheduler programs ensure that lights are switched off automatically at the end of the working day,
and that the temperature set point in the building is reduced at night. These schedulers can also be used to
ensure that offices are not air-conditioned during public and works holidays, and that plant is not kept running
for longer than necessary.

MASTER GAS SYSTEM EXPANSION PHASE 2 COMPRESSION – SS02
All scheduler programs are directly saved and processed locally at the automation level. Thus full
synchronization of individual processes is ensured at all times. Optimum scheduling helps save energy and
extend the life of the plant.
In practice, building operators do not exploit this potential to the full, because the time scheduling in their
systems is too complex and lacking in clarity. The Desigo operator units display ergonomically designed time
schedules which are easy to use.
Trends:
To check the dynamic response of the building services plant, trend functions are provided which the user can
set up as required, to monitor critical equipment or to log relevant data for further processing.
To do this, the user simply defines which data points are to be monitored and how frequently. The trend functions
can also be combined with other system functions. Trend logging can be stopped, for example, at a predefined
time or when an alarm event occurs. The logged data is available for analysis at a later date.

Online trend
• Access protection throughout the network, with individually definable user profiles and categories:
Within the system there are four basic categories of access, ideally matched to individual user groups. The
more experienced the users, the greater the amount of information to which they have read and write access.
These access rights can, however, be modified at any time to suit a specific project. Up to seven access levels
can be defined. The basic rule is that users with a given access level have access to all values at their own level
and at all access levels below their own.
HVAC Control panel is provided with HMI on panel face which automatically reads the data from the Desigo
PX automation stations. It is therefore always up to date and can be replaced while the system is in
operation. The HMI is provided with clearly arranged function buttons and fast access buttons which ensure
correct operation, even by inexperienced users.
• Alarm monitoring with acknowledgement and visual and audible alarm indication.

5.0-CONTROL PHILOSOPHY:
Under normal operating conditions the DDC panel gives the privilege to operate each HVAC unit in two
operating modes: “Auto” & “Manual” in addition to “OFF” mode.
In “Auto” Mode the HVAC unit will run according to the time schedule & sequence of operation pre-programed
in the controller that is when a unit is in Auto. The controller will check safety interlocks & unit status so if the
unit is ready then the controller will command all the accompanied units & once the operating condition is
satisfied (for example accompanied dampers opened) then the controller commands the HVAC unit to start
& to run as per the schedule & program. While on the other hand still the unit can be forced to start in “Manual”
mode by-passing schedules & pre-defined sequence taking in to consideration all safety interlocks.
All belt driven Fans are provided with airflow switches (model QBM81-3) which shall monitor the presence of
airflow across the fans. In case of no airflow condition, the unit shall shutdown & “No Airflow” alarm will be
generated.
In case of Unit trip, the unit shall shutdown and “Trip” alarm shall be generate.
Filter is provided with differential pressure switch (model QBM81-5). When the pressure difference rises
above the set point, “Dirty filter” alarm will be generated.
In case of any fault like trip or no airflow, the respective fault alarm shall be generated & a common fault
alarm lamp is energized on the panel face. In addition, sound alarm buzzer will be energized upon reception
of the above mentioned alarms (except for dirty filters). Upon pressing the mute buzzer push button the
buzzer will be muted while the visual alarm shall remain until the fault is cleared.
During Emergency conditions (fire or high gas alarm or any other emergency condition) a respective signal
will be received from the respective emergency panel mainly Fire Alarm Control Panel, once an emergency
signal is received all units shall be de-energized & the respective emergency alarm will be generated & its
indication light will be energized on the panel face.
All the above alarms shall be reset manually before restarting the HVAC system.
