Ramly Burger is a popular Malaysian hamburger created by Ramly Moknin in 1978 when he began manually making beef burgers with RM2,000 capital. While business was initially slow, demand grew as Ramly Moknin opened more stalls around Chow Kit, Malaysia. Ramly Sdn Bhd was later founded in 1984 and has since expanded to own many food factories, kiosks and marts across Malaysia, becoming a major household name in Malaysia and internationally while providing many job opportunities. The purpose of this study is to analyze changes Ramly Sdn Bhd has undergone through rebranding, restructuring and other transformations over the years.

1 Introduction

The Ramly Burger, also known as the Burger Ramly, is a Malaysian burger created by
Ramly Moknin which is very popular in Malaysia and Singapore. Though the term
"Ramly Burger" may refer to any of the hamburgers sold in a Ramly Burger stall, it
most commonly refers to the Ramly Burger Special. Besides that, The purpose of this
study is to determine whether Ramly Sdn Bhd has undergone many changes in terms
of rebranding, restructuring, reorganization or re-engineering, and other forms of
transformation compared to Ramly Sdn Bhd from the previous years.

1.2 Background and History

Ramly Sdn Bhd is a well-known Bumiputra-owned food-based manufacturer such as


beef, chicken, and seafood. The company was founded in 1984 by the founders, Dato'
Haji Ramly Bin Mokni and Datin Hajjah Shala Siah Binti Abdul Manap, to
manufacture halal, clean and high-quality goods. Nonetheless, it all started back in
1978, when Ramly Mokni decided to manufacture his own beef burger manually with
a capital of just RM2,000. The activity began at his flat in Jalan Haji Hussein,
Kampung Baru, However, business was bad at first, as many Malays were not into
burgers. But as time passes, Ramly Mokni set up more burger stalls around the Chow
Kit area, and since then the demand for his burgers has increased rapidly among the
Malays. He began selling 200 burger patties a day, and the amount of patties sold has
only risen since that day. In the present, Ramly Mokni owns many food factories,
kiosk, and mart in many several areas in Malaysia that offer an many job
opportunities in the management, production, and marketing of food distribution.
Now, Ramly Sdn Bhd is one of the main household names in Malaysia and
international markets around the world.
