Exer 1 Final

The document describes a triple-effect evaporation process to concentrate an 8% sugar solution to 45%. Key details include: - Steam conditions of 120°C and 200 kPa are used across 3 effects. - Mass and energy balances are performed to determine stream flows and temperatures at each effect. - The liquid and vapor flows, temperatures, heat duties and heat transfer areas are calculated for each effect.

System:

Triple-effect evaporation of 8% by weight sugar solution to a concentrated to 45% solution

Solute is Sucrose

Forward-feed

Steam being used : 120 oC (saturation temperature) and 200 kPa

At last effect: 14.1 kPa (vapor space pressure)

BPR of solution (oC) = 6.22x2 + 1.78x; x- sugar solution weight fraction
