New technology that has been developed with time has had a massive impact
on business and on the how we live our social lives. Consumers have moved to
buying from brick and mortar or retail stores to buying online and they exhibit
certain behaviours while buying from online stores. With the advent of newer
technology and better internet connectivity it has become more convenient for
consumers to shop online and they have naturally started showing certain
qualities and behavioural characteristics which companies study to improve
their product and services and offerings. Technology is very disruptive as it
makes the traditional factors and products and offering obsolete which makes
it extremely important to study its effects. It can also result in new product
and services for the consumer, reduce prices, increase the product’s efficiency
and simplify distribution.
One of the biggest phenomena of the recent years, E-commerce has been built
on the Internet technology. The Internet retail in India accounts for a market
size of Rs. 52,000 crores and growing at a phenomenal rate of 100 % per year
as per a report by ASSOCHAM released in August 2013.
In addition to the massive potential of the E-market, the Internet provides a
unique opening for companies to additional efficiently to reach existing
and possible customers. We will explore the different consumer behaviours
and perceptions in this report and try to understand how to increase sales of
online stores.
Problem definition
The present paper focuses on how demographic and other factors can affect the
purchase behaviour for online stores to increase their sales.

1. To understand the willingness and amount the consumers are willing to
pay online
2. To understand the relation between income and monthly spend
3. To understand how various demographics, affect online sales
Methodology
The method selected by the researcher for exploring the consumer perception and behaviour
towards online shopping is survey research. The research starts with identification of different
variables related to responsible for building consumer perception. Primary data for this project
was collected by an online questionnaire and the sample size was 95. The age group of the people
was from 15 to above the age of 51. The tool used for this project is SPSS.
