Position paper

Name: He Yiran

School: Tianjin Foreign Studies University

Country: Republic of Indonesia

Committee: Commission on the Status of Women, UNECOSOC

Topic: Challenges and Opportunities in Achieving Economic Empowerment of Women

Ever since the accelerated development of human civilization, perpetual economic discoveries and the
tenets of the feminism had companied mankind all along the journey. However, ironically, both the
trend of chasing the real equality and rapid development ignore the importance of the rights and
position of women in economy. Technically, it’s called Economic Empowerment of Women. There are
still plenty of countries de-emphasizing this issue, which actually deprive women of rights guaranteeing
the economic interests. But Indonesia is always ready to issues referring to the realization of economic
empowerment of women.

Pursuant to the CSW’s ideology about the gender equality and The Convention on the Elimination of All
Forms of Discrimination against Women, CEDAW(1981),the unadjusted gender gap in average hourly
wages still shows that the hurdles of the women’s financial inclusion. This gap can be narrowed through
joint promotion by governments, the private sector and institutions such as the world bank group, and
work is under way in Indonesia. More precisely, in 2014, The Indonesian government has integrated a
gender perspective into the development and trade policies of small and medium-sized enterprises and
has provided special loan programs to help female entrepreneurs, while also focusing on providing them
with a variety of ICT (ICT) and business development training. In addition, the ministry of women's
affairs and child protection have set up a dedicated BBS, which provides a communication and
connected network for stakeholders. this action completely showed the strong willingness and
determination to end the discrimination on the economic empowerment of women. Only by
emphasizing rights and gender issues can these movements help reduce gender-based violence,
promote women’s access to finance, empower young women to advocate for their own rights, and
advance gender equality. Besides, the main responsibility of the Indonesian ministry of women's affairs
and child protection can also assist the Indonesian president in formulating women's empowerment.
Thus, Indonesia believes that the concept of the gender equality must be popularized and then the issue
referring opportunities in achieving economic empowerment of women could be solved effectively.
Indonesia is committed that:

1: Coordinating, advocating and disseminating gender mainstreaming strategies to promote gender

equality and women's empowerment.

2: Providing young women with early information on lifetime earnings across a range of occupations to
encourage them to choose higher-paying careers.

3: Strengthening advocation to improve the public to give the wife equal control over the joint property
of the couple.

4:Punishing the organization that violate the spirits of UN.

5:Providing young girls with advanced educational concept in order to teach young people life skills to
assume responsibility for their own occupation and to respect the rights of others.

6:Cooperating with UN to propagandize the gender equality.
