The document discusses a presentation on the impact of nature and nurture on personality development. It describes conducting a survey of 20 young adults between ages 18-22 on this topic. The survey results showed that most participants believed the environment and how one is raised plays an important role in personality. Specifically, 90% felt parenting influences personality and 70% felt parenting influences interests. Most also believed personality changes with life experiences, though 70% felt nature plays a more important role than nurture in personality development. The conclusions were that nature establishes personality foundations while nurture adds details, environment is most influential on development, and personality continuously develops through life experiences.

The topic of my presentation is ‘The impact of nature and nurture on a person’s
personality’. I chose this topic because I believe that by understanding how
nature and nurture help in development of our personalities we shall be able to
bring about many positive changes in ourselves and this would also enable us to
understand human psyche and nature in general.
When a child is born his physical appearance resembles to that of his parents this
where genes play a very important role. For instance, the hair color, eye color,
skin complexion and height are considered to be genetically influenced factors.
Some people also believe that temperament and emotion stability of a child is
also influenced by the parents. According to most psychologists’ the hereditary
influence on a person’s personality is permanent and everlasting.
Like children growing up in troubled families are seen too often have troubled
married life as adults. Thus whatever we experience as children all those
emotions and moments have a paramount effect on our personalities.
The other point of view regarding the development the personalities is that
nurture plays the most vital role in personality development. People believe that
genes may only be limited to the physical appearance of a child and has nothing
to do with their personalities. Such people believe that humans beings learn a lot
during the various stages of their lives and personality development is a
continuous process. They believe that life experiences, tragedies and the highs
and lows of life shape human personality. In many cases education and religion
are believed to have a great impact on the way a person responds to or deals with
different situations.

This research was carried out with a targeted audience in mind. I preferred
including mostly young adults in this survey. Majority of the people who took part
in this survey were aged between 18-22. These young vibrant adults play an
important role in successful conduction of this research and they’re responses
hold great importance as they are the ones who are exploring the world and are
developing their personalities with each passing day.

Next is the consent form which can be seen on your screen. The audience was
clearly informed related to the aim of the survey and their privacy was ensured.

Dr. Quartz, a psychologist at the Boston University believes that more than half of
a person’s personality features are closely related to DNA, thus he believes that
nature plays the vital role in personality development. Similarly parents with
sharper memory and imagination have seen to have children with similar
distinctive qualities.

Next moving on to the survey. The survey responses discussed further played an
important role in providing clarity and direction to my research. A total of 20
people participated in the survey and as visible in the very first pie chart all the
participants believed that the general environment a very important role in
personality development. The environment may include the society and family
system in which they live. Other than this peer influence and cultural values also
contribute in the personality development. Moving on to the next pie chart; here
it can be seen that 90% of the believe that a persons’ personality is closely related
to the way in which parents raised them. This may be because whatever a child
learns during his childhood, always influences his character and personality
development and that’s exactly why doctors consider the age between 4-10 very
crucial in terms of personality development. Similarly, 70% of the people believe
that a persons’ liking and disliking is influenced by their parents.
However, 55% people believe that a person will end up like their parents in terms
of their personalities while 45% people think otherwise. Maybe the 45% people
believe that personalities dramatically change due to the life experiences and due
to the hardships faced. And that’s exactly why as seen in the next pie chart all the
people believe that their personalities have changed over the years due the
lessons life has taught them and due to the fact that as an adult they now
understand life in a better way and are sensible enough to adapt to changes
around them.

According to the final pie chart 70% of the audience believes that nature plays the
important role in personality development while only 30% believe that nurture
plays that important role.

With the data gathered through this survey I was able to draw some very vital
conclusions regarding personality development which are;

Number one, nature plays the most important role in personality development
and acts as the foundation while nurturing can add minute details and not alter
the personality entirely.
Secondly among all the other factors environment and a persons’ surroundings
play the most important role in personality development.

Next, many people believe that they inherit physical features from their parents
like eye color, hair color etc.

A person’s personality changes and develops with each passing day thus
personality development is a continuous process. In which life experiences play
the most important role.

These were the conclusions which I drew by the help of this research. In the next
slide the link to the survey which I designed is given in case anyone wishes to
have a look at it.
