ORIENTATION DEFINITION

Orientation is the process of bringing employees up to speed on:


▪ Organizational policies
▪ Job roles and responsibilities
▪ Organizational structure
▪ Vision
▪ Mission
▪ Values
▪ Organizational structure i.e how information flows between levels
within an organization.
NURSING ORIENTATION DEFINATION

The goal of nursing orientation is to ensure that orientees receive

consistent information regarding policies, procedures, standards and

documentation to support practice and familiarize them with the

institutions vision, mission, values, goals, codes and conduct of the

profession and organizational structure.


IMPORTANCE OF ORIENTATION

• Provides the new employee with concise and accurate information to make
him/her more comfortable in the job.

• Improves employee retention

• Boost employee confidence and helps adapt faster to the job

• Helps to make the employee effective and productive

• Promotes communication between the supervisor and the new employee


HOW ORIENTATION PROCESS IS
ADMINISTERED
• An orientation schedule or plan is made available to
inform employees on the activities to take place.

• Orientation process can take a day or even last for a


week depending on the institution.
THE ORIENTATION PROCESS INVOLVES:

• A tour of the workplace i.e layout of physical facility

• Organizational Issues: Probationary period, Disciplinary regulation,


Company policies and rules.

• Employee Benefits: Pay scale and pay days, Retirement program,


Counseling, Vacations and holidays, etc.
