Specifics of the Internship Program

This internship program is one of the many initiatives taken by VCE
for society pack back and helping the needful. We believe that a small
learning, motivation and proper guidance from the industrial experts
can make a big difference in any student’s career prospects.

This initiative is specially designed and created with the focus of Core
Engineering Students ( Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Energy
Engineering branch) and Finance Students (MBA Finance).

But, most of the project topics are inter-disciplinary and hence

students from other branches and specialization can also apply.

Project Topic 1 : Project Finance – Modeling and Analysis

Prime Objective :
VCE as a management consulting firm provides financial consultancy to clients who are seeking to raise debt / equity
for large infrastructure and energy projects. VCE provides the preparation and analysis of essential components of
financing these projects, such as financial modeling, risk assessment, investment memorandum, CapEx / OpEx break
down and revenue analysis.

These financial documents / analysis are required to deal banks / financial institutions for raising non-recourse debt
and private equity through the means of project financing aka infrastructure financing.

What Interns are supposed to do ?

Usually, students studying finance are very new to this topic and most of the terminologies are new to them. Hence, we
cannot involve interns to directly work and give inputs to the ongoing projects / deals where VCE or its consultants are
currently working.

Therefore, we will give a list of reality based projects to interns with actual data and case detailing and provide them
learning references and practical approach so that they are able to prepare financial modeling and analysis of
infrastructure projects.

✓ Understand and Conceptualize Project Finance and it’s terminologies.

✓ Prepare detailed financial model and perform the analysis on eligibility of projects for non-recourse debt.
✓ Understanding the revenue process / model of different sectors ( Solar PV, Real Estate, Highways, Airports etc.)
✓ Prepare a corporate standard reporting at the end of the internship.

The work done by interns at VCE helps the firm in many ways.
Consultants learn by clarifying the naïve doubts and the queries of
interns. Sometimes, VCE take references from the analysis
submitted by interns for live projects. Overall, it’s a win-win
situation for both intern and the firm.

Pre-requisites : To take this project, the candidate should and

must have a good knowledge of MS Excel. They should have a deep
interest in finance management and hence should be very familiar
with financial terms and concepts.

Who should apply ? We encourage and prefer MBA (Finance), M

Com, M Eco and M Sc candidates who are in the verge of finishing
first year.

Students from BBA, B Com, B Eco, B Sc and B Tech can also apply,
if they have the pre-requisites.

Project Topic 2 : Case Study Analysis

Prime Objective :
As a management consulting firm VCE and its consultants handles many cases and issues with their strategic and
analytical skills. The knowledge of analyzing a case and provide solutions to clients can be only gained by case study
analysis. If the case study are real with actual timelines, then it will be more intensive and gives more managerial
learning.

What interns are supposed to do ?

Interns needs to do basic case study analysis on three real case study, and detailed study on one case. The cases are
actually happened in Indian corporate world during past 30 years. The case study will be provided by VCE, it consists of
success, failures and scams cases.

The idea is to make interns ready to analyze and deal with different real life cases. With the managerial learnings of
different strategies used in the cases, interns can actually able to provide solutions to real situations.

Pre-requisites : Nothing specific. But, this project is for those who want to acquire a position of consultant or any
leadership role in future. Candidates should keep in mind, this project WON’T directly help in job search / interviews but
in-directly it will change the perspective of thinking.

Who should apply ? We encourage and prefer MBA (All Streams) and any other UG/PG Student if they have the pre-
requisites

Project Topic 3 : Climate Change and Sustainable Development

Prime Objective :
VCE also provides engineering and environmental consultancy for clients seeking help for understanding their
contribution to, and impact from, climate change. Many small and medium sized industries are facing huge issues on
sustainability assessment and reporting. They look for sustainable development practices and ideas for their industry to
minimize their carbon foot prints and maintain the their obligation.

What interns are supposed to do ?

Since, candidates are having very small knowledge about CCSD and hence interns needs to gather information and
study it and figure out the correlation on how companies are contributing to climate change and how climate change
are impacting them. They are supposed to analyze, summarize and report sustainable development initiatives in a non-
technical detailing. They will be provided with two real case problems that they have to analyze and provide solutions.

Pre-requisites : The candidate should and must have interest to learn and work in this sector. This internship is
designing in a way that non-science students can also apply and get the knowledge. There is a huge requirements of
Sustainability Officers / Managers in industries as they want people who can understand the complexity of CCSD and
elaborate it in a simple way. Industries want to reduce their carbon foot prints and adopt more sustainable soultions.

Who should apply ? Any UG/PG student can apply.

Project Topic 4 : Waste to Energy (MSW Management)

Prime Objective :
VCE have provided consultancy to few waste to energy projects which includes pyrolysis plant, municipal solid waste
management unit for small cities ( MSW Collection < 500 TPD). Due to huge population growth in urban areas the MSW
production is also increasing and the situation is alarming in many developing countries, where proper waste sorting,
segregation and management facilitates are NOT available.

Therefore, many large environmental companies and NGO’s are now partnering with Municipal Corporations of cities to
tackle the MSW issues through PPP based projects. Their idea is to set-up MSW Management Unit and try to recover /
produce more useful products out of waste, such as fertilizers, RDF, Plastics etc. Then, the inert residue will be settled in
scientific sanitary landfill.

What Interns are supposed to do ?

There are a lot of designing, planning and coordination is required to setup a MSW Management Unit. Interns are
supposed to analyze the case study of successful municipal corporations such as Indore and get the idea to do the
designing, planning and coordination for setting MSW Unit for any other city. Interns will help VCE to provide engineering
solutions of waste problems of small and medium cities.

Pre-requisites : This is an engineering based projects, as the waste sorting and separation required lots of machinery
and hence Mechanical and Civil engineering students who have interests to work in this field are more suitable.

Who should apply ? We prefer students from B.Tech / M.Tech ( Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, Energy and Electrical
Engineering branches). Students from other branches can apply, if they have good knowledge about BME/BCE/BEE (First
Year Courses). But, non-engineering students are NOT supposed to apply.

Project Topic 5 : Green Buildings – Ratings and Calculations

Prime Objective :
There is huge demand for consultancy services energy efficient designing of building to get green building star ratings. To
provide this services VCE needs detailing, designing ideas and analysis of cost benefits of green buildings.

What Interns are supposed to do ?

Interns needs to study and analyze and get the details of different green building rating system in India and the world.
Interns also need to figure out various design concepts being used by many green buildings to make it energy efficient.
Then, interns need to do a detailed cost benefit analysis of adopting green building ideas for building residential and other
projects.

Pre-requisites : This is an engineering based projects, as it includes many engineering terms specially civil engineering
and architecture and energy.

Who should apply ? We prefer students from B.Tech / M.Tech / B.Arch (Civil, Architecture and Energy Engineering
branches). But, non-engineering students are NOT supposed to apply.

Project Topic 6 : Solar PV- Simulation and Designing

Prime Objective :
Providing consultancy to develop Utility Scale Large Sized Solar PV Projects is one of the main business for VCE. We
provide end-to-end solutions to setup solar pv projects. Which also requires solar resource assessment of location and
software (PVSyst) simulations for calculation of annual energy production. System sizing (designing) and loss analysis
of solar projects. We have an experience of developing 100+ MW of solar pv projects across the globe.

What Interns are supposed to do ?

Interns are supposed to do these in these activities in this internship;

✓ Solar Resource Assessment and Analysis of a given location.

✓ Perform software simulation (PVSyst) and calculate Annual Energy Production.
✓ Perform system sizing (designing) of PV Plants using PVSyst.
✓ Loss analysis of PV Projects.

Pre-requisites : It’s a engineering design based project and hence knowledge of basic electrical engineering is needed.

Who should apply ? We prefer B.Tech / M.Tech (Electrical and Energy Engineering). Students from other branches can
apply, if they have good knowledge about basic electrical engineering. But, non-engineering students are NOT supposed
to apply.

Project Topic 7 : Electric Vehicle – Techno Commercial Analysis

Prime Objective :
Automobile industry is changing and it’s going to replace the conventional IC engines driven vehicles to electric driven
vehicle in next 10 years. But, this change is very challenging for manufacturers, consumers and regulators. As its
difficult to adopt EV by mass public considering the commercial parameters. VCE received many consulting requests
from manufactures to help them rectify the issue and expand their product to common public. This requires a lot of
technical, commercial and social analysis and hence interns are needed.

What Interns are supposed to do ?

Interns needs to understand that this internship is NOT about designing and manufacturing of Electric Vehicles. This
internship is about the technical and commercial analysis of EV, that they need to do. Interns also need to do a detailed
analysis of case study of Electric Rickshaw (To-To) in India. Interns needs to rectify and provide suggestions / solutions
for the challenges faced by manufacturers, consumers and regulators while adopting EV on a large scale.

Pre-requisites : It’s a engineering design based project and hence knowledge of basic mechanical and automobile
engineering is needed.

Who should apply ? We prefer B.Tech / M.Tech ( Mechanical and Automobile Engineering). Students from other branches
can apply, if they have good knowledge about basic mechanical and automobile engineering . But, non-engineering
students are NOT supposed to apply.

1. This internship is an ONLINE based, Work-From-Home internship and hence candidates should and must have good
internet connection with smart phone, laptop.

2. The criteria and the process of selection of candidates for this internship is completely on VCE.

3. VCE never share the any data (technical, commercial or financial) and the details of ongoing projects and clients to
interns.

4. Candidates should and must follow the steps, instructions and procedures of this internships. Any kind of
indiscipline or over-smartness with VCE employee or other fellow interns won’t be tolerated.

5. Candidates should and must have to provide a NOC / Bonafide certificate from their college. Or, they can provide the
reference contact details of their TPO / Dean / Professor (IC) after getting selected in this internship. Only on some
special circumstances we allow passed-out candidates to do this internship.
