Facebook Chapter-3

The chapter outlines the research design and methodology used in the study. It describes the descriptive research method employed to provide rich descriptive details about the phenomenon. The study aims to understand teachers' perceptions of how their Facebook posts affect their personal and professional lives. It uses a survey questionnaire distributed to 25 teachers at a elementary school to collect data on teachers' Facebook use, perceptions, and experiences. The data is analyzed using statistical tools like frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and ranking to identify key findings and recommendations.

CHAPTER III

Research Design and Methodology

Research Design

The method used in this research was the descriptive method (e-how.com). The

descriptive method of this research design helped the researchers plan and carry out

descriptive studies, designed to provide rich descriptive details about people, places and

other phenomena. This type of research is often associated with anthropology, sociology

and psychology, but researchers in other fields, such as education, use it. The descriptive

method often involves extensive observation and note taking, as well as in-depth

narrative. Because it does not lend itself to in-depth analysis or hypothesis testing, some

researchers regard the descriptive method as unscientific. However, a descriptive research

design can serve as a first step that identifies important factors, laying a foundation for

more-rigorous research.

The present study is objective in finding out the perception of the teachers

regarding their life’s experiences in Facebook posts and how it affects their daily lives as

a professional and as an individual.

The Sample

The present study is focused on the lived experiences of teachers as they will be

affected by their own posts or the posts of another person in Facebook. This study is

based on the real-life scenario that is happening in the cyber world wherein someone can
pretend to be that person. It is the sad reality that at this world, nothing is impossible and

anything true can be falsified and anything that is falsified can be true.

The present study is focused on the 25 teacher respondents of Oasiao Palingal

Elementary School located at Oasiao Bacon District, Sorsogon City. The present study

will be tasked to find out the different categories / type of Facebook posts that the

teachers were posting and on how it will affect their lives as it will create / give positive

or negative impact in their personal and professional lives.

The Instrument

The present endeavor utilized survey questionnaire in gathering data. Interviews

were also conducted on randomly selected teachers regarding their point of view about

teachers’ lived experiences in different Facebook posts.

The contents of the questionnaires are as follows: A) Profile of the teachers; B)

Teachers’ perception regarding Facebook posts; C) Factors that affects Facebook Posts;

and, D) Classification of Facebook Posts.

Data Collection Procedures

After the proposed title has been approved by her thesis adviser, the researcher

asked permission from the school principal to conduct a study on Teacher’s Facebook

Posts perception at Oasiao Palingal Elementary School. Upon approval of the school

principal, the researcher set informal interviews with the teachers on their opinion

Facebook Posts. With the answers given by the teachers, the researcher informed the
group that she is on the process of conducting a study on the Teachers lived experiences

on Facebook Posts. The teachers pledged their support to the researcher on his purpose.

With confidence on the support of the teachers, the researcher started to prepare

the questionnaire to be used in data gathering and to be distributed to the respondents.

The prepared questionnaire was submitted to the thesis adviser for comments and

suggestions. After the adviser has checked the questionnaire, the researcher prepared the

final copy of the questionnaire for distribution to the respondents. It took five days for

the researcher to retrieve the questionnaire from the teachers. There was a hundred

percent retrieval of the questionnaire from the respondents.

After the retrieval of the questionnaire the researcher tabulated the results and

prepared a copy to be submitted to the statistician for proper statistical analysis and

interpretation.

Data Analysis Procedures

The present study aims to determine and assess the perception of the teachers and

their lived experiences on different Facebook posts to give recommendation to the

problems met.

The present researcher gathered data from the respondents; these data were

treated, and tested using the following statistical tools:

The use of Frequency and Percentage were used for problem 1a, 1b, and 1c to

determine the percentage of age, gender, and civil status of the teacher to the fact that it

affects their perception regarding Facebook posts.

For problem 1d (Number of hours spent in using Facebook) and 1e (Internet / data

/ Plan / Subscription), Frequency and Rank were utilized.

In problem number 2a (Facebooks Pros and Cons), 2b (Cybercrime prevention

Law (RA 10175) and other related laws), and 2c (Cyberbullying) the proponent used

weighted mean as a statistical tool. The following descriptive ratings were employed to

describe the progress of interaction:

DESCRIPTIVE SCALE

1.0 – 1.5 Novice

1.6 – 2.4 Apprentice
2.5 above Practitioner

In problem number 3 the proponent utilized the frequency and rank as a statistical

tool. She simply collected the data and found the frequency of each problem, and then

she ranked it according to frequency.

Problem number 4 also used frequencies and rank as system of analyzing and

interpreting the data. After the raw data have been collected and counted, then they were

ranked in order for the present researcher to determine what are the classifications of

Facebook Posts.
