Description of the Front view Graphic Display The liquid-crystal graphic display module has a reso- lution of 256 * 64 dots. This allows numerical, as well as graphical representation of information. ‘The seven keys (soft keys) located below the graphic display are assigned their function for the respective setting task by the display. The "soft key designations" are represented "inverse- ly". Selected functions are represented "normally". By means of the VIEW - positioner, the optimum angle of vision for the observer can be set. By pulling out the VIEW - positioner, the LED back- ground lighting is switched on. Membrane Keyboard The front panel was equipped with a membrane keyboard to meet the rough conditions during mobile use. Clearly arranged operation and function fields facili- tate the input. Multiple functions were avoided so as to exclude oper- ating errors as far as possible. Environmental specifications (for keyboard only): Protection against splash water IP 65 Operating temperature from - 25°C to + 70 °C Light resisting, stabilized with respect to ultravio- let light. The polycarbonate foil is resistant to mineral acids, many organic acids, oxidizing and reducing agents, neutral and acid saline solutions, oils, saturated aliphatic and cycloaliphatic hydro-carbons and alco- hols, with the exception of methyl alcohol. Keys: impressed "metal frog"-keys, 0.3 mm actuating path actuating force 2.4 ... 3.6 Newton life time of at least 1 million switching operations A metal shielding foil prevents penetration of elec- tric interference fields and electrostatic charges. Key Assignment and Meaning The operating elements are divided into fields and colour-coded according to their functions. 7 soft keys below the liquid-crystal graphic display allow deliberate selection of the desired function in the current screen mask. 10 parallel keys allow switching to the selected key function (AFGEN, memory functions STO, RCL) on every setting and menu level, while maintaining the current generator setting. 12 keys form the digit field. (HEX-KEYS for POCSAG) 5 "close" keys serve to transmit the input together with the respective unit. 3 step keys allow +/- single steps and the selection of the step width. 2 memory selection keys allow fast access to the first two memory locations for the whole RF generator set- ting. 1 RF ON/OFF key serves to switch off the RF-generator. The back signalling is performed by means of a LED- indicator in the key. green = RF generator on; red = reversepower protection Incremental Control Knob The control knob serves to incrementally vary the previously selected setting value. Stopping is done magnetically with 40 partitions per revolution. current supply output (22 volt - output) The current supply output provides the user with an all-purpose connection socket. 12 Volt consumers can be operated with 300 mA. The output is resistant to sustained short circuit. Valid as of: November 7, 1991 * = Software option MSBET 2 3.GETTING STARTED MS1000 3.1.5. OFF/ON Switch (Stand-by) OVEN - Signal Lamp The left stop of the ON/OFF - switch switches the ¥MS1000 off. When connected to the mains, the quartz signal gene- rator is maintained on set-point temperature and its condition indicated by the OVEN signal lamp (stand- by). During the heating-up period, the OVEN signal lamp is switched to "orange" and thus shows that the set-point temperature of the quartz signal generator has not yet been reached. After reaching the set-point temperature, the signal lamp turns "green". 3.1.6. AF - Sockets 3.1.6.1. FM Input This socket is intended for external frequency modula- tion. The input has high impedance (1 Mohm). For the nominal set modulation 2Vss are required. The maximum input voltage is 5 Vss. 3.1.6.2. AM Input This socket is intended for external amplitude modula- tion. The input has high impedance (1 Mohm). For the nominal set modulation 2Vss are required. The maximum input voltage is 5 Vss. 3.1.6.3. AP Input RES The RES input socket serves as additional input for double-tone modulation. For this input 2.5 Veff with an audio frequency generator impedance < 100 Ohm are required to reach the nominal modulation. 3.1.6.4. AF Generator output AF-GEN The audio frequency generator output AF-GEN provides AF signals in the frequency range of DC to 32 kHz with a resolution of 0.1Hz and a level range of 0.1 nV to 2.5 V. Ri = 600 Ohm. Valid as of: November 7, 1991 * = Software Option MSBET 3 i>] 3+ GETTING STARTED Ms1000 3.1.6.5. 3.1.7, 3.2.8. Combined output AUX The AUX socket jointly provides several outputs. In addition, it provides access to six control lines, programmable via IEEE bus. The following layout is factory-assigned. PIN 1 = BIT 5 PIN 2 = BIT 3 (LED-indication on front) PIN 3 = AF-GEN 0.707 Veff(4 Ohm) PIN 4 = BIT 4 PIN 5 = BIT 2 PIN 6 = BIT 6 PIN 7 = BIT 1 PIN 8 = GND The control outputs (BIT1 ... BIT6) are programmed via the IEEE BUS interface (cf. 4.5.4.2). RF Output The RF output has an impedance of Son. This socket allows adjustment of the RF generator level between -127 dBm and +13 dBn. The standing wave ratio at an output level of +3aBm to +13 GBm exceeds 2 (10 dB), and at an output level of -127 dBm to +3 dBm exceeds 1,5 (15 dB). vView-Positioner, Background Lighting ‘The potentiometer VIEW permits individual adjustment of the angle of vision of the liquid crystal graphic display. By pulling the VIEW positioner out, the background lighting is switched on, and by pushing it in, it is switched off. Description of the Rear View Power Supply Socket with Power switch The combined power supply comprises a 1 A power filter with a one-pole power switch of the Protective Class I (2P+E) (cf. supplement sheet). The power supply is guaranteed in a voltage range of 230 Volt + 10 %. Expanded messages The basic message satisfies the minimum request for the transmission of a useful information. If the necessary amount of information can not be accommodated in a message, the message modules "BAK" until "redundancy" are transmitted several times - four times at the most. Expanded messages are dial-through, reply call request, abbreviated dialling, and data. The expanded message always begins with a basic message. In expanded messages the last BAK module contains the meaning of the information (e.g. dial-through) . The preceding BAK modules contain the meaning “sequential information". The status module is used in connection with the BAK module "sequence information" to indicate the number of information blocks to follow, i.e. with every following information block this number is reduced by one. IEEE 488 Interface The interface bus corresponds to the standards IEC 625 and IEEE 488 and allows the interworking of different measurement instruments and computers via a line sys- tem (bus). All connected instruments lie parallel at this bus and have access to all lines and can transmit (Talker) or receive (Listener) according to their function. In the system the following distinction is made between the instruments: - Listener function, only data can be received. ~ Talker function, only data can be transmitted. - Talker/Listener function, data can be transmitted and received. - Controller function (computer), control of the pro- cesses and information interchange of the instru- ments connected. The data are transmitted byte-serially in connection with a three-step handshake-process. This process permits operation of instruments with different execution speeds at the bus. The bus operates with negative logic with a maximum admissible cable length of 20 n. 4.5.1. Description of the interface The connection socket is arranged at the back side of the instrument. MS1000 Complete Instrument The MS1000 is controlled by two microprocessors. The transmitter processor sets the RF frequency, the RF level, the modulation and the AFG of the RF generator and generates the Radio Code synthesis. The terminal processor controls keyboard input and displays the inputs in numerical form. 5.1.1. Description of the Function of the Transmitter Unit The RF generator comprises three switching units, the RF synthesizer, the digital unit with the modulation process- ing and the terminal processor unit with the IEEE bus. The RF synthesizer generates output frequencies of 100kHz up to 1 GHz. With the aid of the two Vcos (vco1, vco2) the frequency range 500 ... 1000 MHz is generated. The rough frequency tuning of 50 kHz is obtained by PLL1, fine tuning and FM-PM-modulation is looped in by the digital unit via the PLL2. The frequency ranges 125 MHz up to 500 MHz are obtained by division and subsequent harmonic filtering. The frequency range of 100 kHz up to 125 Miz is generated by mixing with a 500 MHz Vco (Vvco3). Amplitude modulation, level control, and level setting (0...10 GB) take place ahead of the 125 MHz...1 GHz output amplifier with a pin-diode-attenuator set. The output of the synthesizer stage is followed by the 120 aB calibrated attenuator in 10 4B steps with the reverse power protection. The heart of the digital unit is the 1.25 MHz direct digital synthesizer (DDS). With the aid of the DDS the frequency steps < 4-25 kHz and the frequency and phase modulation of the RF generator are obtained. Amplifier and multiplexer (selecting switch) form the input for the modulation; they switch to the desired modulation sources and are either supplied to the DDS (for FM, PM) via an analog-digital converter or get to the PIN-diode regula- tor of the RF synthesizer for amplitude modulation. MSFNK 1 5.DESCRIPTION OF FUNCTION Ms1000 The AF generator AFG is arranged on the digital circuit board as well. Thus, also in this operation mode, all settings are dis- played in the current menu as well. Switch-over to manual operation can be performed by press ing the key "Local". Serial MPC bus (Multi Processor Communications Bus) This includes the message receiver and the message trans- mitter. Both messages are stored in separate buffers in the form of a MA = measurement request and a ME = measurement result. The data flow in the multiprocessor system is generally carried out with a master- and a selected slave-computer. In operation a distinction is made between addresses and data. Data flow between master and slave is initiated by transmitting an address. The slave computer responds by a receive interrupt and performs an address checking. The following data transfer only interrupts the selected slave computer. All subsequent data are received and processed until the end of the data block. After the last character, a control bit is set, so that again address checking of a new protocol can be per- formed. Transfer rate: 187,5 KBaud Every transferred Byte has the following set-up: 1 start bit set-up: 8 data bits 1 label bit 1 stop bit | 11 bit length Data transmission format: ADR,LEN,KEN,INF1.....INFn,EOT value (Decimal) ADR = slave address 0....255 LEN = length of the info bytes 0....255 KEN = label (message type e.g. TXALL) 0....255 INF = information protocol data 0....255 EO? = End of transition 4 . MSTP 2 5.2. MSTP CIRCUIT BOARD M1000 3. HARDWARE DESIGN The hardware is designed in CMOS or in High Speed CMOS to meet the requirements of battery operation. The processor type 80c32 is used. In the system 64KBytes (IC 3) program flow memory and 32KBytes (Ic 1) battery-buffered data memory, as well as 8KBytes (IC 2) auxiliary memory are reserved. The LCD graphic display (Epson EG2401-sR) is driven in connec- tion with the graphics controller E-1330 (Ic 5). The graphics controller is operated with the internal charac- ter ROM and an external skBytes display RAM (IC 13). A 12 MHz CMOS clock generator (IC 9) provides the system clock for the processor, the clock/2 for the LCD controller and the clock for the IEEE circuit board. 4. FFFFH = chipselect RAM (IC 1) data protection Power is supplied to the CMOS-RAM (IC 1) via a connected U-Ram voltage. Switch-over from 5 Volt to U-Batt is done without interrup- tion via MRES. During operation the RAM is applied to 5 Volt via the reset- -logic (Tl and T2). The diode is blocked and disconnects the battery from the supply. A data access is made possible by enabling the line chipselect RAM via the address switch (IC 12). In time before failure of the 5 V-supply, MRES-Not is set, which opens the address switch (IC 2) and T1 and sets the RAM to stand-by. The diode switches to conducting state and supplies the address switch and the data RAM with battery voltage. The discharge current is < 2 mA. a MSTP 4 5.2. The mains voltage gets to the mains transformer via the main power switch at the rear side of the instrument, a power filter and a fuse. The mains transformer comprises on its secondary side a 5V- and a 12V-winding. The 12V-winding provides after rectification the main supply voltage +UB, which reaches the PS circuit board via the pins 1 (+UB) and 2 (ground). The 5V-voltage is directly led to the PS circuit board (pins 3 and 4), here rectified and increased to +UB. The voltage of about 17 V thus gained is stabilized with Ici to 14.2 V and is available at the battery socket at the rear side of the instru- ment as charging voltage for an external accumulator. If required, the charging current can be varied by means of potentiometer P1 between 11 V and 16 V. The current limitation lies at about 500 mA. The MS1000 can be supplied via the same socket also from a 12V voltage source. If operated via the mains, the relay REL1, which lies directly at the voltage +UB, is always operated and supplies the quartz oven oscillator even with switched off ON/OFF-switch at the front panel of the MS1000. When battery-operated, the relay drops off and the ON/OFF-switch now also switches the supply of the quartz. The individual supply voltages of the MS1000 are derived from the +UB. Two low-drop-voltage regulators (IC3, IC4) generate two #10V-voltages (OP+10V and A+10V), and a circuit power supply unit supplies the -12V-voltages (OP-12V, A-12V) and the 5V- voltage. The latter is led via two separate lines to the mother- board of the MS1000, once for supply of the analog stages as At+5V and then as D#5V for the digital stages. Thus, a good decoupling of the supply voltages is obtained. The same is true for the grounding lines AGND and DGND. Two additional voltages are derived from A+1ov, i.e. +28v with IC10 and an exact reference voltage of +5.1V with IC7, adjust- able with potentiometer P4. 2 MSPS 1 Pp 5.4.MSPS CIRCUIT BOARD M1000 MSPS 3 5.5.DIG CIRCUIT BOARD M1000 MSDIG 1 @®] §+5-bIG crncurT BOARD MS1000 MSDIG 2 | $-5-DIe crRcur® BOARD M1000 MSDIG 4 5.6.SYNTH CIRCUIT BOARD MS1000 MSSYNTA 2 T @LNASSH s-205774 | aw esraesri—35 oooTsH Gavod LINOUID HINAS*9*S a 5.6.SYNTH CIRCUIT BOARD MS1000 £2 LAGEPLAN - MSSYNTB 2 5.7.P8MS CIRCUIT BOARD MB1000 S | T ~~ | ie PA TETTERPLATTE LacerLAN B MSPSMS 1 ‘| 5-8-MsaP crecurr BoaRD M1000 et Ae MSGP 1 5.9.DBCBUS CIRCUIT BOARD M1000 DacauS SE-15600 106 Fal] Zoas weap my = ,On#o ermeee a BE esoiaaGlgme — TETTERPLATTE.
