I – Find the general solution of the given higher-order differential equation.


1.y’’ + 8y’ + 16y = 0
2.2y’’ – 3y’ + 4y = 0
3.y’’’ + 3y’’ – 4y’ – 12y = 0
4.y(4) + y’’’ + y’’ = 0
5.y(5) + 5y(4) – 2y’’’ – 10y’’ + y’ + 5y = 0

II – Solve the given initial value problems (IVP).


1. y’’ – 4y’ – 5y = 0; y(1) = 0, y’(1) = 2
2. y’’’ + 12y’’ + 36y’ = 0; y(0) = 0, y’(0) = 1, y’’(0) = - 7

III – Solve the given boundary value problem (BVP).


1. y’’ – 10y’ + 25y = 0; y(0) = 1, y(1) = 0
2. y’’ - 2y’ + 2y = 0; y(0) = 1, y(π) = 1

IV – Two roots of a cubic auxiliary equation with real coefficients are m1 =


-1/2 and m2 = 3 + i. What is the corresponding homogeneous linear differential
equation? Is your answer unique?
