Pre-processing geometric and radiometric
correction
• For works with remote sensing data is
necessary to project to a geographic
coordinate system, unfortunately this
georeferencing process produce a losing
information effect.
• The geometric correction process has 2
purposes:
• Project the scene as exactly as possible
(means reducing the displacement)
• Minimize loss of information from original
images
• If it is not necessary to work in a specific
coordinate system, then geometric
rectification will not be necessary, thus
avoiding the loss of information.

Pre-processing radiometric correction
Distortion exhibited by incorrect luminance
values in the pixels recorded in an image when
compared to the reflectivity or density of the
object being digitized.

Radiometric distortion is caused by the


atmosphere or radiation sources, creating noise
on the scene.

Radiometric correction is done to reduce


or correct errors in the digital numbers of images.
