Remove Flywheel

1. Remove six of bolts (1) that hold the flywheel in position.

2. Install Tooling (A) to hold the crankshaft gear in position.

3. Remove the remainder of bolts (1).

4. Install guide bolts (B) in the crankshaft.

5. Fasten Tool (C) to a hoist and put it in position in the groove of flywheel (2) as shown.

6. Pull flywheel (2) on to Tooling (A).

7. Remove Tooling (A).

Tool (C) can not be fastened to the flywheel.


Hold the flywheel level with Tool (C) and the
hoist when it is removed from guide bolts (B). If
the flywheel is not held level, it can come off of
Tool (C) and cause bodily injury.

8. Remove flywheel (2) with Tool (C). The weight of the flywheel is approximately 44 kg
(96 lb).

9. If necessary, remove ring gear from flywheel (2).

Install Flywheel

1. Heat ring gear to a maximum temperature of 315°C (600°F) and install it on the flywheel
so the chamfer of the gear teeth will be toward the starter pinion when the flywheel is
installed.

Tool (B) can not be fastened to the flywheel.


Hold the flywheel level with Tool (B) and the
hoist when it is installed on guide bolts (A). If
the flywheel is not held level it can come off of
Tool (B) and cause bodily injury.

2. Install Tool (A) in the crankshaft.

3. Fasten Tool (B) to a hoist and install in the groove of flywheel (1) as shown.

4. Put flywheel (1) in position on guide bolts (A).

NOTE: Put clean engine oil or 5P-960 Multipurpose Type Grease on the threads of the
bolts that hold the flywheel in position.

5. Install six of the bolts to hold the flywheel in position.

6. Remove Tool (A).

7. Install the remainder of bolts (2) and tighten all of the bolts to a torque of 270 ± 40 N·m
(200 ± 30 lb ft).
