Quiz of Acrylic Removable Partial Dentures
Young Patients:
Elderly Patients
Patient cannot afford the expenses of implant and its overlying structures
(metallic partial dentures or fixed restorations)
As a transitional denture.
c. Light in weight.
i. bulky and
f. Design difficulties:-
1. a connector,
7. To enhances proper retention and support of the prosthesis. The Acrylic denture
base should have :
a. proper fitness,
b. proper adaptation
c. and proper extension within the physiologic limits.
b. For small unilateral posterior saddles a small acrylic plate will suffice (side
plate),
a. aesthetics,
b. mastication ,
1- Point contact between the abutment and artificial teeth, not area contact,
2- lateral forces are distributed mesiodistally along many teeth in the arch so
reducing lateral stresses to a minimum.
3- Porcelain teeth are preferable to reduce wear.
4- The lateral forces are also resisted by:
the palate,
the buccal mucosa
anterior abutment teeth if present. Wide embrasures between
abutment and artificial teeth to allow natural stimulation of the
gingiva and cleaning of the teeth.
5- The "Open" design of saddle/tooth junction is employed. All borders are at
least 3mm from the gingival margins,
6- Uncovered gingiva prevents pockets between the denture and the tooth
substance and allow for natural stimulation of the gingiva.
7- Contact of the denture with a stabilizer (round wire) on distal surface of the
last standing tooth ( posterior wire "stop" is included to prevent distal drift
of the posterior teeth) with subsequent loss of contact points.
8- Maximum retention following the principles used in complete denture
construction by maximum coverage of the palate and full extension of the
flanges and proper shaping of the polished surface to allow better muscular
control.
9- Free sliding occlusion is made to reduce denture displacement during
lateral movement.
5- young patients with premature loss of teeth to maintain space and esthetic
3. For patients who are psychologically unable to accept the loss of teeth.
4. The transitional partial dentures can be used during the periodic shift from being
partial to complete denture wearers.
5. Serviceable but periodontally weak standing teeth that are beyond the point of
restoration.
8. To replace recently extracted teeth that should be replaced when tissues are
healed.
