SYNOPSIS

FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM provides knowledge on concept and fundamental of


fire protection and prevention system. It emphasizes on the regulations for fire
protection systems, passive and active fire protection.
COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
1. Apply the knowledge on fire protection system, fire prevention system and the application
of fire protection system in a building satisfactorily. (C3, PLO1) (C3,PO1)

2. Analyze the compliance of fire protection system equipment and the fire prevention
system to the regulations of the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia. (C4, PLO3)

3. Demonstrate understanding of fire protection system application in assigned topic. (P5,

SYLLABUS
1.0 BASIC CONCEPT OF FIRE SCIENCE (04 : 00)
This topic discusses the characteristics of fire, spread of fire and the importance of fire protection system.

2.0 PASSIVE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM (08 : 00)


This topic explains the regulations of uniform building by-law 1984, purpose groups and compartments, fire appliances access, fire
safety wall and floors, fire barriers to external walls, protected service shaft and means of escape to exit.

3.0 ACTIVE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM (10 : 00)


This topic discusses the requirements of portable fire extinguisher, external fire hydrant, hose reel system, dry riser system, wet riser
system, downcomer system, automatic sprinkler system and carbon dioxide (co2) extinguisher system.

4.0 FIRE PREVENTION SYSTEM (04 : 00)


This topic discusses the requirements of automatic fire detection and alarm system and smoke control system.

5.0 APPLICATION OF FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM IN A BUILDING (04 : 00)


This topic discusses the various parties approach towards the fire protection.
