1 Release Notes
May 2020
Welcome to the Leading SAFe course!

In the spirit of relentless improvement, we regularly update and maintain our courses.
This document contains a summary of the updates for this version of the course.

General Course Improvements


General course improvements include bug fixes, standardization with the SAFe
curriculum, updated links, and corrected typos, grammar, and punctuation.

Knowledge Checks
This release includes a section in the Trainer Guide called “Knowledge Checks” that
contains a link to a bank of knowledge check questions and guidance for how and when
to use them to engage your students.

Remote Course Guidance


This release includes remote guidance to enable a remote classroom, including:
• A Digital Student Workbook which includes eight digital assets in the form of
editable PDFs to complement the remote experience. These assets, except for the
WSJF activity, are also included in the Trainer Guide, so instructors can familiarize
themselves with the assets before teaching a course. See the list below to review
the new assets by lesson and activity.
o Lesson 2, Activity: Assessing a Lean mindset
o Lesson 2, Activity: Agile principles at scale
o Lesson 2, Activity: Decentralize decision-making
o Lesson 4, Activity: Describe three Features
o Lesson 4, Activity: Weighted Shortest Job First (WSJF) prioritization
o Lesson 4, Activity: DevOps myth or fact
o Lesson 5, Activity: Identify Strategic Themes
o Lesson 5, Activity: Epic writing
• A Remote Classroom Document template to support a rich remote classroom
experience, located in the folder “1 Templates Handouts.”
• A Remote Group Document template to enable small group discussions and
activities in a remote setting, located in the folder “1 Templates Handouts.”
• A PI Planning Simulation Aid to assist in facilitating the PI Planning simulation and
activities in lesson 4, located in the folder “1 Templates Handouts.”
• A welcome and primer email template for the remote learner, located in the folder
“1 Templates Handouts.” This template provides content and technology

preparation instructions to ensure the learner is prepared for the course prior to
the first day of instruction.

o Repository of video and article course links
o Remote course delivery feedback
• Remote Course Guidance instructions, located in the Trainer Guide, with slide-
specific instruction modification suggestions and prompts throughout the entire
course. These are included in the Trainer Guidance text beneath each slide in
the Trainer Guide. It is advised that you familiarize yourself with this content prior
to teaching the course.
