Calculations

This document provides calculations for estimating biogas generation from waste. It estimates that 1000 people producing 0.2 kg of waste per person daily would generate 200 kg of total waste and produce 20 cubic meters of biogas, equivalent to 5 kg of LPG gas. It also estimates that 1 ton of waste would produce 100 cubic meters of biogas, equivalent to 25 kg of LPG gas. However, the gas generated per day from a 1 ton plant is insufficient to meet the daily consumption needs of 57 kg for cooking in a hotel kitchen. Transportation would also be required to carry waste from surrounding areas to the biogas site.

Advantages and Disadvantages of biogas plant

Advantages Disadvantages Remarks

• Cyclic output of gas , electrical units and manure after the initial • The gas generated per day is insufficiant wrt. the gas consumed per day .(i.e the gas Data for gas consumtion based on
commissioning generated by a tonn plant is 25 kg and the daily consumption is upto 57 kg) discussion with hotel owners

• Increases the transportation process of carrying waste(from surrounding areas) to biogas Transportation will be required in
• Saves the transportation cost of carrying waste to disposal site
site . order to generate subsequent
•Biogas can be used for cooking, heating water, generation of •The time required to cook or heat with biogas will be higher than that of regular Lpg . Two types of gas burners will have to
electricity. And will also require separate burners. be used .
• Materials like bones, citrus fruits ,cocunut, chillies have to be segrigated before feeding
• Effective way of treating biodegradable waste
