Office of Compline

Night Prayer

According to the Monastic Divine Office, for Every Day of the Week
As said by those not in Holy Orders

Important note; The following Latin text of the office of Compline conforms to the 1963 Monastic Breviary (Benedictine)
and is substantially identical to that in use for centuries. All English translations are taken from books approved by the
Catholic Church. To those canonically bound to recite the office, the English text does not fulfill those obligations, it
is uncertain to the editor whether the Latin text fulfills canonical obligations in a non-monastic setting. None of these
concerns effect the laity who do not have canonical obligations to the office.
All:
I confess to almighty God, to blessed Mary ever virgin, to blessed Michael the archangel, to blessed John the Baptist, to
the holy apostles Peter and Paul, to all the saints, and to you, brethren, that I have sinned exceedingly in thought, word,
and deed: (striking the breast three times) through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. Therefore
I beseech blessed Mary ever virgin, blessed Michael the archangel, blessed John the Baptist, the holy apostles Peter and
Paul, all the saints, and you, brethren, to pray for me to the Lord our God.
Leader:
May almighty God have mercy on us forgive us
our sins, bring us to life everlasting.
All:
Amen.
Leader;
May the almighty ✠and merciful Lord grant us pardon, absolution, and remission of our sins.
All:
Amen.
(The Psalms alternate with each verse between the right and left sides of the church)
