Academic Writing Reflection

I have demonstrated many skills through my work in this academic writing course. I
have shown authorship as I integrated sources into my paper and gave credit where
credit was due. I also represented myself in an excellent manner as I made sure to
originality in my work and was naturally curious throughout the research process.

writing would appear more credible to readers. A final skill I gained from this course
was giving effective peer reviews. I learned how to write helpful, useful comments that
would push my classmates into revising their writing to make it even stronger.
Ultimately, the knowledge I took away from Duke Academic Writing enhanced the
clarity and validity of my writing. Such skills relate to my own goals as I aim to maintain
a stellar GPA throughout high school and beyond, and a key part of successful grades
purposes, they are all connected. Each assignment has taught me the importance of
effective persuasion by using elements such as reliable sources, proper grammar, and
appropriate formatting. Comments from my peers and instructors have deeply aided
my work as they revealed aspects in my text that I was previously blinded by. Their
from fellow readers helped me better target my audience. My work has definitely
improved upon the course. My comprehension of MLA, grammar and mechanics, and
persuasive elements have all flourished. However, writing is always a work in progress,
thus I will continue to nurture these skills. The items in my portfolio that truly show my
improvement as a writer are the Argument Essay and the discussion post. I put a lot of
effort into these two assignments, as I wanted them to shine as much as possible.
Indeed, distance from such pieces has given me more clarity regarding my work, and
new insights have risen. This is one of the beauties of writing. Ultimately, my major
takeaway from Duke Academic Writing is that although writing is complex, successful
writing emerges when one both acquires the skills to write effectively and then works
